Improve Your Career Prospects By Becoming an Industry Influencer

Whether you are working for a great company or have a fantastic idea for a startup, your chances of success will improve by a huge amount if you can become a respected figure in your industry.

Industry influencers get attention. They have an enormous audience to speak to and are seen as credible, trustworthy, and worthwhile. And if you want to improve your career prospects, becoming one is one of the best things you can do in your spare time.

It can be a tough slog to get noticed for the right reasons, however, so I thought I would explore some of the tactics you should be using. Let’s take a look at some of the ways becoming an industry influencer can help your career – and how to get started making more of an impact.

Learn how to communicate

If you want to influence people, you have to know how to talk – and listen – to them. Not everyone is a natural communicator, of course, but is a skill you can learn. Take classes to improve your public speaking. Find out how to write in a way that engages people. And most of all, learn how to listen to people’s concerns and create compelling arguments that can help them with their issues.

Create and curate awesome content

If you want to be seen as one of the best in your field, you have to prove it. And one of the best ways of doing this is to provide people with exceptional blog posts, interesting ideas, and original thoughts. Now, you don’t have to come up with all this stuff yourself – it’s a good idea to curate content as well as create it.

Work on online self-promotion

Whether you are working for an employer or running a business, your online persona is essential if you want to be seen as an authority or an influencer. For example, for the real estate industry, you’ll find the likes of Nicolas Livsit on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and every major social channel; always updating their profiles and bringing new ideas to the table. Self-promotion is all part of the influencing game, and it’s something that you will have to embrace if you really want to get your name out there.

Connect with other influencers

Connecting with other industry influencers is part of the game, too. You tend to need an invite to start eating at the top table, so reach out to people in your industry that already have a name for themselves. For example, one of the most influential writers in the tech industry is Martin LaMonica of The Conversation. For online marketing, you might look towards the likes of John Rampton or Ann Handley. Engage with their ideas, comment on their posts, and link to their suggestions within our content. With a little luck and relationship development, there is nothing to stop you from getting quoted by other industry influencers as much as you quote them.

Good luck – and feel free to leave some tips of your own, or let everyone know how you are getting on!

Gaming PC’s: Value For Money?

Gaming is a darn expensive hobby.

The new Playstation 4 Pro is going to set you back about four hundred dollars, with the Playstation VR not far behind that. A 4K television set capable of displaying the full power of the PS4 Pro will cost near one thousand dollars and the controllers and games are sixty bucks a piece.

28906279633_fdf20f2018_n

(source)

That’s money that could frankly, be put to much better use – especially when you consider the five to seven year life span of games consoles.

The gaming PC is a whole different beast. For the same price as the Playstation 4 Pro, you can get a system that is arguably more powerful and you won’t need an expensive television to go with it if you choose a good monitor and there are a lot of points to consider to find the best gaming monitor.

So, is a gaming PC worth the investment? Well – it really does depend.

While the outlay on a system like the PS4 might seem initially cheaper, that could be false over its lifetime if you upgrade or buy new controllers. However, if you enjoy games that are exclusive to Playstation like Bloodborne or Infamous Second Son – then there is no question at all – the console is the choice for you as these games are unavailable on the PC. Remember that there are a number of games exclusive to PC – such as Civilization

If you aren’t fussed about console exclusives, then go right ahead with the PC. Steam and GoG have plenty of sales throughout the year meaning you can pick up good games for low prices often enough to make it worth it in the long run. Console games do go on sale, but not often enough.

31358420734_70e5a6b4b4_n

(source)

A thousand dollars of gaming PC can also run games at a higher level than the PS4. You’ll experience better draw distances, better graphics and better visuals.

Of course, PC games are customizable through user produced mods as well – so you have to take that into account as a deeper and more customizable experience might be worth more for you!

While PC’s have made huge strides in terms of size and portability over the past number of years, the consoles still hold the trump card in terms of accessibility. If you want to play on your existing TV downstairs, a console might work for you. That being said, a good PC case might be just as portable. It depends on the options available for you but you might not be able to beat a console for pure ease. A console is easier to play with friends in the first instance as well while a PC will require a bit more setup and care.

If you’re inclined to spend time and effort, the PC will work wonders for you. If you want to get up and go with an option then the PS4 and Xbox One consoles may be better. All in all though, dollar by dollar – the PC wins through and is better value in terms of performance.

Trusting in Quality: Why Your Business Should Pay Extra for Brand Names

When we go out shopping, we’re always looking to get a great deal. It’s human nature to want a great deal; if we see something that’s 50% off, we’re going to snatch it up whether or not we intended to buy that item in the first place. It’s fine because this is just how we are as human beings, but what does it say about our business?

apple-1853259_960_720

Business has no room for hardware failures

When you buy products from a less-than-reputable business, it’s clear when the quality is subpar. It doesn’t matter what type of product you got. It could be something simple such as a couple of pens and pencils, or it could be something larger such as a tablet device or a dozen or so cheap smartphones for your employees to use. Perhaps they don’t last as long as advertised, maybe they fall apart after a couple of weeks use, or perhaps they just aren’t as powerful as the branded versions. Whatever the reason for their poor quality, not getting brand names could spell disaster for your business.

Imagine if you bought a few cheap barcode scanners to keep track of your warehouse stock. Now picture this situation; one of them has developed a fault and your new employee doesn’t realise this because of the convoluted interface. Whatever items this new employee scans, it’s not getting read properly by the scanner and the codes are garbled. When it comes to stock check time, all of your stock counts are screwed because of an error from a cheap barcode scanner. This could have been prevented if your business invested in a Honeywell barcode scanner because they are a well-known brand that has served the industry for many years. It might have had a higher initial cost, but the cost of fixing your stock is going to be higher.

man-coffee-smartphone-working-6362

Your quality reflects in your products

If you buy low-quality materials to make your own products, then the quality is going to be experienced by the end-user. For instance, if you are a keyboard manufacturer and you decide to use cheap imitation switches instead of genuine Cherry MX switches, then the quality of your keyboard will be below the industry standard.

You might be able to offer a cheaper price for your keyboard product, but that doesn’t mean much if the switches themselves are imitation ones that don’t offer anything different—they’re just lower quality than the real thing. If you want to ensure that your clients come back after purchasing your products, then the source of your products needs to be high-quality.

iphone-1100263_960_720

Summary
It might be tempting to buy cheap products or materials to fuel your business, but it’s a pointless endeavour in the long run because you simply can’t trust bad quality. It might be fine for now, but in the future your, products are going to be mocked for using low-quality materials. You can trust in the consumers to find something off about your products if you advertise them as better than they actually are, so don’t play with fire. Be honest with your products, get branded equipment and materials, and don’t skimp on quality.

Is It Time To Retire Your Workhorse?

img_3496bfree

You’ve held onto your car through many years and every time you think her life has come to an end, miraculously you have managed to stretch a few more miles out of her.  The thought of saying goodbye to the car you took on your first date, headed out on your favourite road trip and got you home through a storm when others were stranded, has been a little too much for you.  Sadly though, it’s time to admit her driving days are over.

If you are lucky you may find someone who is just starting out as a driver and is desperate to get their hands on a cheap project car.  Who know’s with a little bit of TLC somebody could nurse her back to life.  Or you could consider setting her off on a new life at the race track.  Her engine is kaput but she has an incredible chassis so maybe someone could give her an exciting future.  The likely route? Junk cars for cash.  Sorry, as hard as that is going to be, we have to let go at some point right?

Good.  Now that is sorted out, let’s have a look at your new options.  A younger, safer more reliable workhorse that is going to look after you, and your children if you have them, slowly becoming full of brilliant memories you will make in the future.

Car finance packages are an excellent way of getting into a brand spanking new car.  There are so many options right now including hire purchase solutions which can help bring the monthly costs down a touch.  You could also consider checking with your personal bank and seeing what rates they offer.  Sometimes the interest rate on a bank loan is a little lower.  Although the bonus of dealer finance is you sometimes find they offer some incentives too.  Such a discount on the OTR price of the car.  Dealers make money out of selling you finance so they are able to move a little more on price sometimes.  Also a few manufacturers offer free insurance for a year or free servicing.  So speak to your local car traders and find out what they have to offer.

If you don’t have the budget to go new and the finance is something you want to avoid then the second-hand car market is the place for you.  With plenty of internet auction sites specialising in second-hand motors, you can cut out the middleman and head straight for the seller.  You will need mechanical knowledge, so if you are light on that then find a friend or a local mechanic who will come with you.  Make sure you do a history check on the car too.  You don’t want to be buying something that ought to be in the junkyard you just sent your old faithful to.
Buying a new car is a huge commitment and a massive financial investment so take your time and do your research.  However the peace of mind that comes from having a newer car with tons of modern safety features is worth the wait and the money.  Happy driving!

Drive Loyalty & Ensure Clients Keep Coming Back

Many new businesses put a huge focus on finding new customers – and for good reasons. After all, the more clients you are attracting, the more likely it is your business will grow. However, attracting new customers is expensive. You have to devote a lot of time, energy, and money into trying to appeal to them. A much cheaper way of making sales is to increase loyalty amongst your current customers, who you already are in contact with and don’t have to spend on attracting. You do, however, have to ensure they remain loyal – and I’ve put together a few simple ideas which can help you achieve it. Let’s get started with some of the basics.

woman-1329790_960_720

Pic from Pixabay.com

Up your service game

First things first – ensure your customer service is making a big enough impact on your customers. Every time you make a sale or get an inquiry, your service must be pitch perfect, friendly, attentive, and, ultimately, better than your clients receive anywhere else. But also, you need to ensure you keep in contact with your customers. Making a sale is one thing, but connecting with your customers is the most important part of the process. Instead of focusing on new acquisition, try sending thank you emails or messages – perhaps ask your clients if there are any issues. Maybe you could send them a discount code or offer them a deal the next time they buy anything. Don’t forget, on average, acquisition of customers costs around six times more than retention, so you have some room for maneuvering.

Stop trying to sell

Not every person that walks through your door or sends you an email will buy from you there and then. But depending on how you react to them, they could still end up becoming a customer. If you can show that you genuinely care for their needs and help them out with what they might be looking for, it can leave an indelible mark. And when that customer decides they are ready to buy, it is likely they will come to you. The truth is that when a client feels like you have their support and assistance in mind, they are more liable to talk about it with other people, which increases your potential market even further.

Create an application they cannot resist

Apps are a great way of giving something back to your customers and keeping your company at the forefront of their minds. In fact, they are so useful that many businesses utilize mobile or web application development and offer it free to their customers. It all depends on what your business offers, of course, but there are many different ways it can help. For example, let’s say you are a digital marketing agency – maybe you could produce a simple desktop app that customers use to check performance, or research industry keywords. Going in an entirely different direction, let’s say you are a baking equipment and ingredient store. Maybe your app could offer a broad range of recipes that you can create from all the stuff you sell in-store. Not only will these give customers something useful, but it will also drive traffic to your store, both online and off.

Reach out for feedback

If you can reach out to your customers for feedback, you win on two different levels, First of all, it gives you a chance to improve your business and helps you see everything your company does with a fresh pair of eyes. But it also tells your customers something incredibly important: you are prepared to listen., When a client suggestion ends up as part of the way you do business, they will feel like they have a stake in your company, and will be more inclined to use you again.

Personalize every experience

Finally, forget what you read about data – it’s the personal experience that counts for the vast majority of customers. Sure, you can use data to inform your behavior and find out what customers really want. But in the end, it’s the one-on-one experiences that will mark you out as a great company to do business with. Get to know your clients as individuals, and connect with them on a human level. The next time they consider looking into your industry, there is far more likelihood they will call you up if you go down this route.

How do you keep your customers coming back, or are you struggling to retain clients once you find them? Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments section below.

Is Your Home Ready For The Heat?

We’re now officially out of the coldest time of the year, and it’s time to start thinking about the warmer weather. Whether you’re a fan of the heat or not, you’ve got to make sure that you’re ready for the sun to come out. This means that it’s time for sunscreen and cool clothes. But it’s not just a matter of getting yourself ready; you also need to make sure that your home is ready. Your home reacts to temperature changes almost as much as you do. With that in mind, here are a few things that you can do to make sure that your home is ready for the heat.

  1. Check your air conditioning

9098640163_fc5b54a5b4_n

Image Taken From Flickr

There really is nothing worse than the temperature getting too uncomfortable heights, only to find out that your air conditioning isn’t working properly. Companies like Academy Air can help to provide you with reliable systems as well as a great deal of assistance in the event that something goes wrong. Sometimes your air conditioning is the only thing preventing you and your family from completely overheating, so it’s important that it works at all times.

  1. Check your windows

Depending on where you live, you might have had to install som storm windows during the winter months. If that’s the case, then it’s important that you take them down once the weather starts to warm up. You might even want to replace them with screens. That way you’ll still be able to keep things out, but you’ll be able to get a lot more air flowing through the house.

  1. Clear up your yard

lawn-mower-938555_960_720

Image Taken From Pixabay

The garden is the place in your home that tends to get neglected the most over the winter. It’s pretty understandable that this happens of course. After all, it’s hardly perfect conditions for mowing the lawn when you’re ankle-deep in snow and mud! But as the weather warms up you should take the opportunity to get your garden ready for people to use. You’re probably going to be spending a lot more time in your yard as the weather warms up and you want it to be the kind of place that you can actually enjoy being in.

  1. Clean your gutters

The winter is the time of year when your gutters tend to fill up with a lot of gross gunk. But the real issue is when the weather warms up, and that stuff starts to dry up. This is the point when really serious blockages can happen. In the event that it does rain during the warmer seasons, you drains are much more likely to flood and overflow when this happens. So, it’s incredibly important that, as soon as the weather starts to clear up, you get up on the ladder and start cleaning out your gutters. Use a trowel to scoop out the majority of the stuff that’s blocking the gutter, then use a hose to wash away the rest as well as forcing out any clogs that might have appeared.

Buying A Write-Off Car: Can You Grab A Bargain?

car-1245786_960_720

Plenty of cars and other vehicles that are written off by insurance companies are not necessarily as dead as a dodo. In fact, many can be fixed up and sent back onto the road in no time at all, and for any car buyer looking for a good deal, a write-off can prove tempting. However, you do need to be careful, as there are plenty of ways you could end up being taken for a – very dangerous – ride. Let’s take a closer look at some of the basics of buying a write-off, and what you need to do to avoid trouble.

The value in written-off cars

Cars are written-off because they are damaged beyond a point where insurance companies feel it will cost to fix. So if your car is worth $5,000 at the point of an accident, but repairs will cost more than that, no insurer is likely to give you a payout – and will write-off our vehicle. For a car buyer, the value lies in a written-off car that doesn’t cost as much to repair as the insurance providers think. However, some cars are written off merely because they are dangerous, and it’s important to understand the difference.

Check the Written Off Vehicle Register

To accurately establish the condition of any vehicle you are thinking of buying, you should always check with the Written Off Vehicle Register (WOVR). This initiative was created to prevent dodgy repair companies fixing up write-offs and putting them back into the market as used cars, rather than ex-write-offs. It’s a process known as ‘rebirthing’ and often results in the car getting a new identity. The truth is that whether you are buying new or a write-off, you should always check this service out regardless.

Find repair services

Obviously, the best value in buying a previously written off vehicle relies on you doing the repairs. They are a great option for a DIY project, of course, but you should be able to find plenty of professionals to help if you don’t have the skills. Check your local business directory for mechanics with experience of working with write-offs and smash repairs. Bear in mind that buying a write-off is not for the faint of heart, and it’s important to be able to estimate the actual cost of any damage. Some repair jobs could exceed your expectations, so always get it inspected by a qualified individual first.

Return to the road

You will need to have a string of safety checks on your new purchase when it is fixed, to prove its roadworthiness. If you don’t go through this process, the car will be illegal – and you will end up in a lot of trouble if caught. You should also bear in mind that when you sell it on, it will be necessary to declare it as a write-off. And this could cause you problems, as most people will turn their backs on a car as soon as they realise its history of being a write-off. However, if you want to save money and grab a bargain vehicle that could last you for many years, the write-off market is worth a look – just be careful what you buy!

The Essentials Of Buying Vehicles For Your Business

There are a million and one reasons why you might need to consider buying cars, trucks, or vans for your business. Whether it’s a little company car or an entire fleet of delivery vehicles, there are plenty of advantages of investing in wheels for your enterprise.

Cars are flexible and can act as an enticing offer to prospective employees. Vans are handy for deliveries and are also the workhorse of many a business. And if you need to deliver on a  massive scale – possibly across international borders – then trucks will be an essential purchase.

The big question is, how do you go about investing in a fleet of vehicles? Let’s take a look at everything you need to know – and what to expect.

truck-1565478_960_720

source

Is it worth buying?

First of all, you will need to establish whether buying vehicles will be more cost-effective than leasing them. In many cases, leasing your fleet of vehicles will be a better move, as it helps you control costs and spread them evenly over a year. Bear in mind that depreciation comes into play when you buy new vehicles, too, which you won’t have to worry about in a leasing plan. However, in some cases – if you are using plots of cars, for example – it is sometimes better to buy than lease. When you buy multiple vehicles, you will often get a fleet discount, and there may be other accounting reasons for making a purchase.

What are the costs?

The expenses of owning a fleet of vehicles will vary depending on what – and how many – you buy. You will need to run regular maintenance programs to ensure your assets are in good shape and there are plenty of one-off costs to consider, such as using a 24/7 truck breakdown service or bringing in mechanics. There’s the cost of storage to consider, too – lorries and vans take up a lot of room, and you will need to pay for that space. Finally, insurance is a must if you have a business fleet.

rescuer-1754324_960_720

source

What systems do I need?

You will also need to invest in a robust fleet management and logistics program to ensure you are keeping track of everything. Fuel costs, health, and safety, routes, license checks – they are all needed when you own a fleet and are employing drivers. Logistics is a vital part of any business that uses vehicles, and the goal for every company in this situation is to cut costs without impacting service quality.

Who should drive them?

While company cars can be offered to any employee with a license, it’s a little different for vans and trucks. It is imperative that you hire drivers that are sensible on the roads, and have clean licenses. You should also offer plenty of training, to ensure they always comply with health and safety issues. It might be worth buying a fleet with telematics technology on board, too, so that you can ensure that all drivers are using their vehicles at the appropriate speeds.

OK, so there you have it – a brief guide to some of the basics of buying a fleet for your business. I hope it has helped!

Trust: A Business Essential

There is one thing that is applicable to all aspects of the workplace that is valued more than stats, marketing, and tech. Trust. It is what will build bridges, seal deals, and communicate with care. Staff needs to trust your judgement; you need to trust your staff will deliver the goods. The transactional process that we engage in as customers is the “what are you going to do for me” attitude without ever doing anything in return. Trust in business is not just on a human level either, we look for the trustworthy clients to work with, and it is something we are not too keen to dish out to anyone, and other businesses are not so keen to dish out to you too! This could be losing you customers. How can you redress the balance?

handeschutteln

Source: www.publicdomainpictures.net

We need to establish trust with our clients in a manner of ways. The cliché of honesty being the best policy is a cliché for a very good reason, it’s because it’s true. People speak of transparency in business being an admirable quality, and it’s something they strive for in their companies, and in themselves. The very notion of being open and honest, in whatever scenario, from a big client meeting to talking around the water cooler, it makes for a very easier life than trying to “big up” your business when you don’t have the goods to back it up. The same goes for things like accreditation. Clients like accredited commercial builders are contractors that you are willing to put trust in to expand your business base, or to work on your new buildings to the standard you need them to do. Being accredited is just an official statement that these people are trustworthy, and by having a piece of paper saying that you are officially reliable may sound irrelevant to smaller businesses, but these are the tools you need to get your business to the next level.

Trust as a leader is a skill that can take a lifetime to perfect, but you can get it correct now. Striking the right balance as a leader that gets work done and makes time for their staff is a difficult task, but it is one that will help to strengthen bonds between colleagues and yourself. There is a big separation between the boss and the workers in an organization, but it’s not an us versus them style situation. This again reinforces the transparency aspect. Taking on board other viewpoints and looking to your colleagues for support helps to develop trust as an important tool. Starting an open-door policy, welcoming feedback, or just making the effort to spend time with people you don’t normally are all approaches that are not just good for the staff, but it’s good for you. Start by opening up the floor to some honest debate about the state of affairs, and welcome constructive criticism about the business workings. Your colleagues want to make their working environment better, not worse. So implementing trust should be top of your priorities.

Don’t Forget These Less Common Marketing Methods

If you haven’t realized by now how important marketing is for your business, then you’re in for a pretty rude awakening. After all, you need customer in order to make your business viable, and there’s know what that’s going to happen if customers don’t know that you exist. This means that most businesses are aware of the importance of marketing and have strategies in place for it. However many of them tend to stick with the same old techniques and strategies that every other business uses. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but it does mean that it’s going to be harder to stand out in a sea of competitors. Customers have never had so many businesses to choose from, and if you’re not willing to get creative with your marketing, then you’re never going to be able to get their attention. With that in mind, here are some less common marketing methods that your business might well benefit from using.

Trade shows

3012058350_03dd9dedec_b

https://www.flickr.com/photos/john_hall_associates/3012058350

Trade shows are an absolutely fantastic way to market your business, but it seems as though a lot of modern startups don’t consider them to be a particularly useful marketing strategies. Far too often they assume that the rise of online technology has meant that digital marketing has completely taken over from getting out into the physical world. Trade shows give you the chance to network with lots of businesses and potential customers. You don’t need some big spectacular presentation either. You can make some genuine connections armed with just some trade show displays, a stack of business cards and a winning smile. No matter how much technology takes over; there will never be a substitute for actually getting to speak to people face to face.

Viral marketing

27323699560_4a5c4e857e_n

https://www.flickr.com/photos/132604339@N03/27323699560

One of the things that has had the biggest impact on the way that many businesses go about marketing themselves is the fact that younger generations simply don’t respond to traditional advertising. Whether it’s because they were raised on more media than any previous generation or whether it’s because they are the first generation to grow up online, but younger people simply don’t respond to traditional advertising the way that their parents and grandparents did. This means that you’ve got to go about things differently and viral marketing is a great way of doing that. If you can create something that’s going to be shared on social media, then you’re able to take advantage of an extraordinary form of word-of-mouth that can potentially reach and audience of millions.

Street art

street-art-in-milan

https://www.goodfreephotos.com/italy/milan/street-art-in-Milan.jpg.php

Going in completely the opposite direction but if you want to reach a large audience outside of the digital world then why not think about something like street art. Plenty of businesses have had huge success with this grassroots marketing method. If you pick the right spot then you’re pretty much guaranteed a lot of foot traffic and if you make it eye-catching enough then it’s going to draw a great deal of attention from passers-by.
