Common Health Myths You Need To Stop Believing

The Internet is home to a wealth of information. There is no denying that it has enriched our lives in many different ways. However, it has also led us to believe things that are not necessarily true. After all, anyone can claim to be an expert when they are hiding behind a computer screen. With that being said, keep on reading to find out more about the common health myths you need to stop believing.

We can diagnose health problems on the Internet – This leads on from what we discussed in the introduction. You cannot rely on the internet to solve all of your problems and answer all of your questions because there is a lot of misinformation. Even if you use trusted websites, like the NHS site, you could still end up assuming you have an illness you don’t have. Doctors are there for a reason. It is better to turn to the likes of Advanced Urology to deal with health issues, rather than trying to second guess what has happened and what the best course of action would be.

Mobile phones cause cancer – If you do a quick search online, you will see that there are articles stating that all sorts of things cause cancer. However, you will be pleased to know that there is no credible link between mobile phones and cancer, as per the National Cancer Institute.

Gluten is bad – This is one of the more recent health myths. Everyone seems to be going on gluten-free diets because they assume that this is the best way to lose weight and lead a healthy lifestyle. You probably know someone who has decided to go on a gluten-free diet! However, unless you have an intolerance or celiac disease, gluten is not harmful or unhealthy.

Fat is bad – This is one of the most common myths that we have all been led to believe when it comes to our health. However, there are good fats and there are bad fats. The chemically processed trans fats are the bad fats, which you should make an effort to eliminate from your diet. You do need a good dose of healthy fats, though. After all, it is all about having a balanced diet and eating in moderation.

You need a mega dose of Vitamin C – Last but not least, we have been led to believe that Vitamin C has some sort of superpower and that we should have mega doses of it on a daily basis. Of course, we need the vitamin to function properly. However, enough is enough – there is no need to overload on it!

As you can see, there are a number of health myths that most of us are guilty of believing. Hopefully, you now feel like you have separated the facts from the fiction so that you are better placed to achieve your health goals. Good luck!
