Taking The Shortcuts To Building A Real Connection To Your Customers

The relationship between customer and business is one that can spend years in a state of flux or go to an extreme in a matter of moments. The wrong solution or the wrong message can ruin the whole relationship. The right approach can create the kind of brand loyalty that you might have thought only possible for the biggest of businesses. Here, we’re going to look at how you make steps to creating the best customer relationship you can.

Make life as easy for them as possible

Regardless of what you’re offering them and what you find out about them, the fact is that a business shouldn’t be hard to do business with. Any barriers that separate you from your customers need to be eliminated. On your website, this might mean simplifying navigation and creating a much more streamlined e-commerce approach. In physical retail, this means making sure that your services are accessible, especially when it comes to payment. If you’re not using things like merchant services to offer more payment options to your customers, then they may just well look elsewhere. Keeping your business accessible to your market is vital if you want to have any kind of relationship with your customers.

Listen to them

That same level of ease and flexibility should go into how you conduct customer communication. A lot of smaller businesses, in particular, tend to have a hard time listening to criticism. Instead of offering support, they can get defensive. Besides listening to them in person and offering customer support, seek their advice online. Ask for testimonials, send out surveys through social media, ask them what they think of you. You might not like some of the answers, but its crucial to understanding the marketing that you’ve found yourself in. Even being willing and open to listening to feedback, and sometimes showcasing the changes you make in response, can win you a lot of respect from existing and potential customers alike.

binoculars-1209892_960_720

Get some insight

A customer might be able to tell you about how they think and feel about your business. However, they’re not always the most reliable people to talk to when it comes to finding out what they want. A better way to do that is just let them show them. For instance, you can use customer relationship management tools to compile all sorts of data on them that allows you some insight into those wants. You can use your website as a tool to the same ends, too. Heat maps can show what parts of the website garner more attention that others. If you use a search bar on your site, realize how useful a tool that can be as well. The results of search bar analysis give you a direct look at what your customers are looking for.

Knowing their wants and needs and knowing that you don’t know everything is important. You need to be open in the relationship and willing to listen, as you should be in all relationships. Sometimes that also means reading between the lines and doing a little digging to find what they really want.

Surviving Sickness Solo: How To Deal With Being Ill When You Live Alone

allergy-cold-disease-flu-41284

Most of us are independent enough to live alone and get by. But what happens when illness strikes? Living with someone, you can always rely on them to be your carer for the day, but living alone, you have to be your own carer. If you’ve recently fallen ill and have to deal with it yourself, here are some ways to cope through the period.

Prepare an emergency illness bag

For when illness strikes, you should have a bag of emergency medical supplies by your bed. This could include painkillers, allergen medicine, prescription drugs, anti-diarrhoea pills and any other emergency medicine that you can think of. Having this within arm’s reach of your bed, either underneath or in a bedside cabinet, can stop you having to trek downstairs and give you the rest you need.

Cut down on chores

This will depend on how long the sickness spell lasts, but realistically you shouldn’t be trying to hoover the house and clean the toilet and run cleaning errands when you’re ill. You need to get rest, and that means not being so active. You can catch up with all this when you are well. Any visitors will understand if your house is a mess.

Order online

You’ll have to eat when you’re ill. If you can’t face cooking, order a takeaway to your house. Similarly, for any resources you may need, prevent having to go down to the shops by ordering online. Forcing yourself constantly out of bed to do errands will not help your recovery.

Open a window

That said, you’ll need to still get some fresh air. Staying cooped up indoors with no windows open could make it hot and stuffy, a perfect breeding ground for bacteria that could make your illness worse. If going outside is too much of struggle, have a window open that you can regularly walk to get fresh air.

Call for help

Realistically, you’re never going to be able to cope entirely on your own, especially for illnesses lasting more than a couple of days. There are many emergency healthcare services that can help you cope if you don’t have any family or friends available (read this new info about Our Urgent Care to give you an idea of such services). It’s worth keeping a number of one of these whilst ill, in case you have a nasty fall or things take a bad turn.

Know when you can no longer cope and don’t try to suffer through it. For lengthy periods of illness, you may have to hire housekeepers or have people to run errands for you such as shopping, posting letters and cleaning the place up.

Let work know immediately and keep them informed of the progress of your illness. You may be able to work from home, but don’t push yourself if staring at a screen is making your migraine worse or your telephone manner is compromised by how ill you sound. For the self-employed it can be handy to have a deputy staff member that can take over or have insurance system in place to protect against when you are ill and business can no longer run.

How To Write A CV That Gets You Noticed

job-search-276893_960_720

credit

If you’ve never written a CV or Resume before, it can be quite a daunting and, somewhat overwhelming task.

Of course there are many resources and templates online that can guide you, but sometimes you can lead yourself down a rabbit hole of looking at these too much, and not just focusing on the basics.

The important thing to remember with a CV is, the intention of it is to pique interest in you enough to get you noticed, and have the potential employer wish to speak to you – they don’t want to see every single detail of your life, what you do at the weekend for fun, how much you love the Batman movies, or what you had for dinner last night.

Sure, they want to know a bit about who you are, because this allows them to see if you could be a potential good fit for the company overall, but they’re really just looking for an overview.

Here are a few tips for you to use when creating your first or next CV.

Length:

The length of your CV is quite important, and the key is to give enough information for relevance, but keep it as short as you can to give that information. Usually a CV should be about 1-2 A4 pages. Unless it’s extremely relevant to the position you’re applying for, then any more than that is simply not required, and they may not even read it all. People are busy, so they don’t have time to read all that – they simply want an introduction to you, and will ask you more details during the interview stage.

Format:

Despite what some people believe, there really is no right or wrong way to format a CV. You definitely want it to read easy, so creating sections, short sentences, and avoiding massive paragraphs that just seem like a wall of words is all you really need to do.

Start with your personal details at the top of the page, such as your name, address, date of birth and contact details. Then create sections for education, employment history, skills, passions, and hobbies.

Also don’t be afraid to be honest about where you feel your strengths and weaknesses are: this, if nothing else, shows that you’re honest, willing to improve, and can acknowledge that you’re human and can overcome failures.

Each of these, obviously apart from the education and employment history should simply be a sentence or two.

Information:

When writing a CV, there are some people out there who will encourage you to exaggerate or even downright lie about your skills, passions, and even your education and employment background. This is not only a bad idea due to being morally wrong, but it’s incredibly silly due to being illegal in some places, and at the very least, if found to be lying or withholding important information on a CV, you would most certainly lose your job, and may have trouble finding another one. So, before you go applying for Science Jobs that you’re not properly qualified for, then you should maybe re-think that plan.

The thing is: if there’s a job you do want, but you’re not qualified for, then there are always ways around that, such as applying for an internship or entry-level position and working your way up, or even getting some qualifications that may be needed.

Honesty is always the best policy.

3 Simple Ideas For Turning Your Life Around In 2017

Have you felt a little down recently? Are you in your twenties and thinking “there must be more to life than this”? Then you’ve come to the right place. We’re currently approaching Christmas, and that means the new year is just around the corner. That’s a fantastic opportunity for you to do something exciting and turn your life around. Nobody wants to see the same old dull surroundings all their life, and nobody intends to work a dead-end job. So, now is the time to make a plan for the future and try to increase your opportunities. Of course, you are the best person to work out the finer details. I just wanted to offer some suggestions.

Move to a different country

The idea of moving abroad excites many people. However, they often feel that turning their dream into a reality is impossible. That simply isn’t the case! Most countries have reasonable immigration rules, and so anyone can achieve that goal. You just need to understand which stipulations you need to satisfy. For instance, Canada is always on the lookout for manual workers, and the same applies to the UK. So, don’t sit at home feeling like you’ve never had the chance to experience other cultures. Anyone could move abroad for a few years and try something new with minimal effort. Also, nothing is stopping you from coming back home if it all goes wrong, but at least you’ll have had the experience.

Get a college degree

If you’re sick of working low-paid jobs, it could be time to head back to college. Getting a degree could open up an entirely new world of opportunities. You could become a doctor or a lawyer and never have to worry about money again. You could even train to become a nurse or something similar if you want to help people. Just work out what you want to do and start to develop your college application strategy as soon as possible. Contrary to popular belief, it’s never too late to get an education. Being as you’re only in your twenties, you have more than enough time to turn things around. Remember, most people work well into their sixties these days.

Find a life partner

It’s possible you might feel a little depressed about life recently because you are spending it alone. So, why not try to meet someone special and share your existence? The process is much easier these days thanks to specialist dating websites and apps. Indeed, around 10% of new couples met using the internet last year. It has become a “normal” way to forge relationships with potential partners and change your life. Just make sure you are smart when it comes to the people you choose to meet. Select those who appear to have at least some of the same interests for the best results.

Making those three fundamental changes in 2017 could improve your life considerably. The issue is that most people struggle to identify them without outside advice. So, now you’ve read the information, you should be in the best position to put it to good use. Feel free to share this post with any friends you know are feeling down this holiday season. As I’m sure you understand, self-help is the key to a happy life.

In fact, over 55 percent of Whistler’s ski runs are suitable for intermediate skiers including the picturesque Arthur’s Choice and Outer Limits.

You Can Overcome Failure In Various Aspects Of Your Life

Everyone fails from time to time, but some people are hit way harder than others. Failure can come in all shapes and sizes, but remember, the most important thing is how you deal with the failure and overcome it, that’s what truly matters. There’s nothing wrong with dusting yourself off, getting back up, and trying again. Here are some varying aspects in life you could fail at, and how best to try again.

Failure In Business

Happiness in business is quite had to ascertain, and when you realise that 90% of new startups fail, it becomes clear just how hard business success is, that in itself should give you some reassurances if you’ve failed. However, just because you failed does not mean you or your business ideas are constantly doomed. Instead, try to learn from it, avoid the same mistakes next time around. The lessons you can learn from failing, from whatever reasons, will make you a better person and help you become a better businessperson in future endeavours. You need to search and find a lesson, take something from the failure and apply it next time around. Set yourself, be adamant you’ll succeed and keep pushing, only this way can you overcome failure. Start again, just keep pouring your drive and influence into new business ideas and plans, it’s all about self motivation, if you can get a business up and running again you’ll know what to look out for to keep it afloat.

Failure In Education

If you didn’t get the degree you wanted or failed at getting one altogether try not to let it get to you, there are many people who failed university and still managed to make huge successes out of their lives, again it’s how you stand up despite failure. Failing college overall is of course way worse than simply failing a semester, but you need to pick yourself up and analyse your life. If what you wanted to do really centred around the obtaining of a degree then re-enroll. Admit you messed up and get straight back into it. Sometimes you can make a deal with your head of school and only resit part of the year, providing you’ve got some good grades the first time around, this can stop you having to resit the whole course again and could save you a year or two of your life. Learn from your mistakes and study more, even hire a tutor for extra help if you need to. If what you want from life does not require a degree, then perhaps it’s time to move on, and it’ll save you a tonne of debt. There are other types of training courses available for people who are smart but don’t have degrees, so get researching and stay positive, as we have seen, it can be done.

Failure In Sport

So you wanted to become a big star, but it hasn’t worked out. Either you’ve picked up one injury too many, or your talents simply aren’t up to scratch compared to the rest of the people in your area. Failure may not be the end for you. You need to pick yourself up, either get into the gym, book sessions in with a physio and get out on the field training every day to improve, or take a long hard think and ponder whether this is exactly what you wanted to do, because if you haven’t got the drive to get out and work, you likely don’t want it enough. Think about other passions and pastimes you may have, start diverting more of your time into them and before long you’ll have a new direction in life. Dealing with sporting failure is one of the hardest to overcome because often there is no way back, especially if you’re in your early twenties.

Failure In Marriage

If your marriage has failed then first you need to take a deep breath, and understand it wasn’t all your fault, it’s split 50/50. Of course some people realise the failure eventually leads to happiness, and it’s from this you should draw solace. If the marriage failed, for whatever reason, then it wasn’t right. It’ll feel awful at first, especially if you didn’t necessarily want it to end. But time is the best healer, and before long you’ll be back on your feet. The power of positivity rules here, you need to get outside with your family and friends, meet new people, try new things, and before long months would have passed and you’ll be happy it all ended. Granted, it’s a horrible thing to go through, but just remember if it’s going to make you happier it needs to be done.

Career Failure

One of the most common failures is that of a career failure. Perhaps you thought you would be higher in the company you work for, perhaps you thought you’d be head of department in a school instead of just a teacher? There are two things to consider, firstly, changing careers, and secondly, whether you’ve been pushing hard enough. If you have, then step back and if you’re not happy leave, your happiness comes first. If you haven’t, then ask for a meeting with your supervisor and tell him exactly what you want and when you want it by. Be assertive, if you’re good at your job they may give you a raise just to keep you at the business instead of lose you to a competitor. Sometimes you won’t get noticed unless you start shouting about it. Don’t see it as a failure if you’re passed over for promotion, just keep going, apply again using the previous rounds experience to guide you forward. Start applying for similar jobs in different businesses or fields, doing this can get you a better pay grade or more responsibility, all things you can put on your resume.  The key in the career game is not to get bogged down, because if you do life will fly past and before you know it it’ll be too late.

Improve Customer Communication WIth These Clever, Simple Tactics

call-15924_960_720

credit

How you communicate with your customers will define how they see you as a company. It is critical that you get it right, as failure to communicate well can lead to confusion, damaged reputation, and loss of sales. In today’s guide, I’m going to take a brief look at some simple but smart tactics to ensure you are continually improving the way you communicate with clients and customers. Let’s take a closer look.

Open ears

First of all, make sure you are listening to what your customers are saying. Whether it’s anecdotal evidence from an angry customer on the phone or comment on your social media, your customers will be able to tell you what is going wrong with your business. Being a good listener is a vital part of excellent communication – so keep your ears open and start hearing.

phone-735062_960_720

Know your audience

When it is time to ‘speak’ to your audience, it is impossible to do without knowing who they are. You have no choice but to research your market and find out everything you can about them. Where do they live, how old are they, and what are their interests? Once you have all the data you need, you will be able to draw up a picture of the average person interested in your product or service.

Talk in their language

Once you know who your audience are, you should adapt your tone of voice so that they can understand it. The tone of voice is critical in getting your message across, and getting it wrong can be disastrous. Avoid using industry terms and jargon, unless that is how your audience speaks.

Give them what they need

Make it easy for your customers to find out more about who you are and what you do. There are numerous ways of approaching this task. For example, make sure you are contactable via text message, phone, VoIP, social media, email – the works. You could also use something like NFC tags in your marketing materials. As NFC Direct point out, it can help them find out more about your business, or send them direct to your website in an instant. Everyone prefers a different way of communicating or finding out information, so provide for them all as much as you can.

press-1015988_960_720

Be honest

While this point might sound obvious, there are far too many companies out there who overhype themselves when it comes to messaging. The simple truth is that this tactic can only backfire. And once you get the reputation of spreading untruths, it can be hard to shake. Avoid these problems arising by always taking the straight route. Never overestimate your product or service’s ability to achieve results, or it will come back and bite you at some point.

Focus on benefits

Finally, in all your product details, focus on the advantages it brings to your customer. Nobody wants to read endless product or service descriptions, but if you can highlight how it will help your client’s life, you will find you get more sales.

Any more tips to add? Let me know about them and join in on the conversation!

Minimising The Chance Of Having A Road Accident

pexels-photo

Pic Source

For anyone who drives on a regular basis, knowing how to reduce your risk of having a car accident is vital. After all, you never know when you might be involved in such an incident. But you can take active steps towards ensuring that it doesn’t happen to you. In this post, we are going to take a look at some of the basic everyday things you can do to minimise your chance of being involved in a car accident. Knowing the following should help you to feel safer on the roads. Let’s take a look at what you can do.

Avoid Distractions

Of course, you can only control what distractions come into view in a limited sense. After all, you can’t do much about distractions on the road or from elsewhere. But what you can do is work towards keeping the interior of the vehicle as distraction-free as possible. This might mean turning off your phone, for example, as these are a really common cause of car accident. It is also advisable to turn your music down, particularly if it is aggressive music. It has been proven that this type of music causes people to drive badly, so it is worth bearing in mind. Keeping distractions to a minimum is a great way of ensuring that you are much less likely to have an accident. Distractions are the number one cause of car accidents. So you can see why this would be the case.

Learn To Defensive Drive

If you have never taken a defensive driving course, you should seriously consider it. It is a great kind of car accident help, as it helps you to improve your driving and lessen the likelihood of having an accident. In general, defensive driving is exactly what it sounds like. You will learn how to drive in a way which massively reduces your risk of anything untoward happening. It is clear that this is something that anyone could benefit from. You could even ask for a course on this for Christmas; with any luck, it will prove to be a great gift.

Take It Slow

In general, the most important thing to remember on the roads is to take it slow. This is the only advice that you really ever need, as driving slowly is always going to hugely reduce your chance of being in a road accident. If you are often speeding, ask yourself why that might be. It could be that you just don’t think about it, in which case developing a more mindful approach to driving could be the solution. Alternatively, it might be that you feel a little rushed, like you have to get everywhere quickly for some reason. If that is the case, take a look at the things in your life which are making you feel that way. Getting to the root of the issue like this is the most effective way to change your driving habits for the better.

What To Consider When Deciding To Hire Your First Official Employees

workplace-1245776_960_720

photo

The decision to hire your first official employees is a big one. It’s one that shouldn’t be rushed into because you don’t want to end up having to keep hiring new people all the time, but it’s also something that you shouldn’t allow yourself to procrastinate on for too long because if you do, you’ll continue to struggle to manage everything on your own, and that’s not a good role to have when you’re trying to run a business.

As you probably know: delegation is absolutely one of the best things you can do for your business, and you need to build a team of support who you can count on to keep things ticking over when you need some time off, or just for the things that don’t fall within your zone of genius and take up too much of your time already.

However, as much as you know this, there’s quite a difference between outsourcing to freelancers and subcontractors, and hiring actual employees to be on the payroll.

When you hire employees, you have a responsibility, not only to make them aware of their job description, pay them, and provide them with the resources, training, support, and surroundings they need in order to actually do their job properly, but you also have to think of other things you’ll be responsible for.

You have a moral, professional, and legal obligation to ensure that your employees have a safe environment to work whilst employed with your company – this is especially true if you’re asking them to work in-house.

Places like Plansafe can advise on what employers need to be aware of in this respect, and are committed to ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and are safe at their place of work.

Other things you’ll be responsible for, are taking care of your employees tax and other relevant deductions.

You’ll also be required to provide them with the legal amount of time off, for both holidays and sickness within the law.

Unlike a freelancer or sub-contractor, have a lot more direct responsibility when it comes to hiring staff to work for you.

Failure to comply with the law in any way regarding the employment of your staff could result in large fines and a lot of problems, so before committing to employing people, make sure you fully understand the law, your responsibilities, the expectations on both sides, and get everything, including employment contracts, checked over by an employment lawyer who can advise you on keeping on the right side of the law so as to avoid any accidental or unexpected issues.

If you feel like hiring is not something you’re ready for right now, then you can still build an amazing team of people to work for you, but they can remain as freelancers or consultants, which takes away a lot of the above issues and responsibilities.

Of course, as with anything, when you treat people good, show them you value and respect them, and they’ll likely do a great job for you, so it really doesn’t matter whether or not they work for you as an employee or a freelancer, it’s more about the shared vision you have for the future of your company, their role in its success, and how you treat each other that counts.

Your First Server Room: Tips For A Smooth Set-Up

While cloud services can be very convenient for a small business’s storage and networking needs, they’ll only get you so far. More and more small businesses are deciding to set up their own in-house server rooms in order to get around various security and practical concerns. If you’re taking your first steps into the large and often complex world of dedicated server rooms, here’s a little advice for hitting it on the head.

With Server Racks, have a Plan and Stick to It

800px-wikimedia_foundation_servers-8055_17

Image from Wikimedia

Compared to a jumbled stack of It hardware in the corner of an office, a rack setup has a lot of advantages when setting up a server. However, if you set a server rack up improperly, or without taking the time to plan it out, then it’s going to be little more than a large and expensive shelving unit! To start with, you need to have a complete list of all the equipment you’re going to be mounting on the rack. This needs to include the servers themselves, network switches, an uninterruptable power supply, and any additional storage or security components. Setting up a server rack during the work day will only cause disruptions, so plan who’s going to be taking part in this after-hours work well in advance so you don’t screw up workflow too much.

Don’t Cheap-Out on Power

power_on_-_texture

Image from Wikimedia

Keeping power flowing to your servers is extremely important, and if this isn’t considered thoroughly you’ll only run yourself into all kinds of problems. Though it may be expensive, some offices can benefit from connecting their server room to a separate circuit breaker. This will save you from the kitchen microwave tripping up the servers, or any kind of routine changes or upgrades resulting in expensive downtime. Even if your office has brilliant power supplies, you’re going to need an uninterruptable power supply, as localised power failures can happen at a moment’s notice. This is the one sure place where you can’t scrimp, so limit your search to reputable vendors and brands like Riello UPS. While shopping around, make sure you’re referring back to the list you started with, and checking that the UPS you settle on has enough places to plug-in all the appliances on the server rack.

Lock Up

A lot of business owners will switch over to a server room solution having had some kind of security breach through cloud solutions in the past. Having made the switch, they figure that they’re completely safe from any kind of security threats. This is totally false, and you need to make sure your server is protected from any damaging breaches. As soon as it’s operational, the server room should be strictly out of bounds to people outside of the IT department. Make sure that the door is closed and locked at all times, and put a password on the KVM console if at all possible. You can also make your servers a little more secure by installing IP cameras, which can be used to keep an eye on any equipment in the room.
