Unwelcome Thoughts: Are You Worried About Your Mental Health?

Picture Source

We all go through low periods, that’s just something that every adult has to get used to every now and then. However, there’s a big difference between going through a low period and being able to pull yourself out of that period for an incredibly long time. If it seems as though you’re feeling down more often than not, then that could be a sign that something a little more serious is going on. It’s a sad fact that most people are pretty uninformed about mental health because of the stigma that often surrounds it. However, mental health is important and should be considered in the same vein as physical health instead of something that people are ashamed of. With that in mind, here are some things that you should do if you’re worried about your mental health.

Speak to the people in your life

One of the hardest things about mental illness like depression or anxiety is how alone it can often make you feel. It’s easy to feel as though you’re totally unable to connect with the people around you because of any issues that you’re having with your mental health but in reality, you probably have a lot more people in your life you care about you and want to support you than you might think. The most important thing is that you actually reach out to these people and try to connect with them. If you don’t communicate that you’re worried about something to your friends and family, then they’re never going to be able to support you in the way that you really need. It’s not always easy to tell people that you’re struggling, but it’s often the first step on the path to getting the help that you need.

Do some research

Picture Source

When you feel as though there is something wrong with your mental health it can often be an incredibly confusing and upsetting experience. Because of this, a lot of people aren’t sure what it is that they’re feeling or what they should do about it. As much as people always tell you not to google your symptoms, doing so can help you much more easily identify what it is that’s wrong. You can often find the symptoms of things everything from depression and anxiety on sites like WebMD to these signs of residual schizophrenia from schizlife.com. Of course, you should rely solely on the internet and your own research for the kind of diagnoses that you really need, but it’s a good place to start.

Speak to a professional

Of course, if you feel as though you have an idea of what is wrong, or you just feel as though you really need help, then you need to speak to a professional. Make an appointment to speak to your doctor and explain the way that you’re feeling. Your doctor will likely have far more resources than you have access to and will be able to guide you in the right direction. Whether that takes the form of medication, therapy, or anything else, it’s important that you are as informed as possible as to the kinds of treatments options that are available to you.

Anxiety Disorders: What Exactly Are They?

Anxiety is a health problem that we hear a lot about these days but people often don’t understand what it is. The online world is full of people discussing their anxiety disorders and an equal number of people that dispute them. The reason there is so much argument around the issue is that people are trying to simplify it too much because they don’t fully understand what anxiety disorders are. Most people tend to make the mistake of thinking that having an anxiety disorder just means being nervous all of the time about everything but the reality is, there are a lot of different types of anxiety disorders, often caused by high stress levels. They affect everybody in their own way. The best way to understand the problem is to educate yourself about the different types of anxiety disorder. This can be followed up by researching possible treatments and remedies, such as kratom, but be sure to consult your doctor first before trying any treatments or remedies as the doctor can help with pinpointing the problem and treating it safely. Information on kratom can be found at https://kratom.org/guides/. Other remedies can also be researched online as well.

General Anxiety Disorder

This is what most people are thinking of when they hear about people with an anxiety condition. People that have experienced extended periods of feeling anxious are likely to have general anxiety disorder. These feelings aren’t caused by anything in particular so people that have this condition often feel helpless because it seems as though there is no way to stop them. If you are diagnosed with general anxiety disorder, your symptoms can cover a wide range of things and all patients react in their own way so you should never discount somebody’s experience or claim that they are exaggerating their symptoms.

Panic Disorder

Panic disorder is a more obvious anxiety condition and the symptoms are usually the same in most people. As its name suggests, panic disorder primarily manifests itself in the form of panic attacks. As feelings of anxiety build and build, they eventually come to a head during a panic attack. They aren’t triggered by specific events and can happen at any time. This means that if you have panic disorder you will be constantly on edge about having an attack and this fear in itself can lead to more attacks so if you don’t see a doctor for treatment it can quickly spiral out of control.

PTSD

PTSD is more well-known but people don’t usually consider it an anxiety disorder. There are plenty of veterans PTSD resources out there because most of us recognize PTSD as an issue that affects the military. However, it can affect anybody that has witnessed or been a part of a traumatic event. The effects of PTSD can be very damaging as they cause you to experience flashbacks and nightmares that seem incredibly real.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorders

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is another condition that people might not necessarily think of as an anxiety disorder. You often hear people saying that they’re a bit OCD. It’s a throwaway comment and they might not mean anything by it but keeping a tidy house doesn’t mean that you have OCD. It’s a serious medical condition that can completely rule people’s lives. The obsessive aspect usually comes in the form of negative thoughts or urges that you cannot stop from coming. The compulsive aspect is what most people are familiar with; OCD sufferers will often find that there are actions that they feel that they must repeat over and over and if they don’t it causes them serious distress.

Now that you know a bit more about anxiety disorders, you can be more understanding around people that have them.

10-Minute Solutions For Stress

We’ve all been there. You feel like you’ve got too much on your plate all the time. Stress is something that affects us all, but it can cause people to react in different ways. Some people thrive on stress, others let it overpower them. There are so many causes of stress, and myriad ways to deal with it. Next time you’re feeling stressed, try these simple 10-minute solutions for size.

Talk it out

Have you got thoughts whizzing around in your head? Do you feel like you’re going to burst? Do you need advice or simply want to offload? If so, don’t bottle everything up. Call a friend or pop and see your sister or your mom. Even a 5-minute rant can do you a power of good. It’s beneficial to get things out and to express yourself. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to people you know, consider seeing a therapist once a week or every few months. It’s good to have an outlet if you are feeling like things are getting on top of you.

Tidy up

There’s nothing more annoying than walking into your office in the morning to see a massive pile of papers or arriving home to a living room packed to the rafters. Take a moment to tidy up, clear everything away, and start afresh. Try and get into the habit of filing papers, and keeping pens and other stationery bits in a container, and keep your desk surface as clear as possible. At home, do a quick tidy up before you go to bed and use solutions like a shoe storage rack, boxes and crates, a shelving unit and clothes rails to keep things in order. Nobody wants to spend time tidying when they’re tired, or they’ve got a to-do list as long as their arm, but you’ll feel so much better after a bit of decluttering.

Stretch

Exercise is one of the best natural remedies for stress. Even if you’ve only got a few minutes to spare, doing some stretches or going for a quick walk around the block will help to boost your mood and clear your mind.

Laugh

If you’re having one of those days, laughter is the best medicine. When you’ve got a break, call that friend who never fails to give you the giggles or watch some funny clips on your phone. Laughing triggers a series of processes within your body, which are proven to lift your spirits.

Breathe

Do you feel like you’re running around like a headless chicken? Are you struggling to hear yourself think? Are people asking you to do things left, right, and center? If you need a break, take 10 minutes, stretch your legs and focus on breathing deeply. Take deep breaths in and then exhale. This will help to lower your heart rate and make you feel less anxious. Some people also find meditation really helpful. If you haven’t been to classes before, you can follow guided meditations using apps or online videos.

If stress is getting to you, try these simple solutions. You may not find every one effective, but there may be some that are just the tonic.

Road Rage: Dealing With It Safely

(image: flickr)

There is nothing better than driving on the open road, the beautiful scenery ahead and the wind in your hair. All seems fine until you notice the person in front is driving at ten miles an hour, or you see somebody talking on their cell phone. Suddenly your calm and serenity disappear, replaced by feelings of frustration as you angrily beep your horn at the other road user. Welcome to road rage, one of the biggest dangers on the road today.

Road rage is a curious thing. No matter how calm and friendly a person is in everyday life, once behind the wheel of the car, there can be a transformation of Jekyll and Hyde proportions. The smallest event can make a person angry, and if those feelings are not dealt with, what happens next could prove costly and life threatening.

It is likely you have experienced some form of road rage in your life. Whether you have found yourself shouting at other people from behind the wheel, or been the victim of somebody else’s wrath, it is important to protect yourself and the lives of others on the road.

Therefore, consider the following advice that could prove life saving.

Controlling yourself

Road rage generally comes from feelings of stress. Driving can be pleasurable, but sometimes other drivers or pedestrians can aggravate the negative feelings we have circling through our unconsciousness. Therefore, you need to alleviate your stress by doing some of the following:

Listen to relaxing music that will calm your nerves.

If you know you need to be somewhere at a certain time, set off early, so you’re not stressed through being in a rush.

Think before you act. Another driver may annoy you, but should you beep your horn in anger or drive irresponsibly in vengeance, you could cause an accident and be at risk of having your license taken away from you.

Pull over to the side of the road and let yourself calm down.

Remember other people can be irresponsible, it’s a common fact of life. Accept it, take some deep breaths and carry on.

Protecting yourself

When it comes to others causing road rage against you, there is the need to look after yourself. Consider the following.

Purchase a dash cam that can record the actions of the driver. Should you be involved in an accident, the footage can support you should you hire the services of a car accident lawyer, and is invaluable when dealing with insurance companies.

It is important you don’t make matters worse by copying their action and fueling their anger further.

Avoid eye contact with an offending driver as you may make their behavior worse. Ignore them, and carry on with your journey.

If the car behind is tailgating you, let it pass. Once they are out of your way, you can continue safely.

Finally, be a safe driver. Should you drive responsibly, there is less reason for other drivers to get angry at you.

Do You Need Help?

There is a strange stereotype that tends to invade a great deal of modern society. That is the idea that everyone should be completely independent. That being anything other than entirely “self-made” is somehow an admission of weakness. The idea of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and refusing any help from the outside worth is often treated as some kind of virtue, something to be commended. Whereas reaching out to those around you for support is something to be ashamed of. This, quite frankly, is a ridiculous attitude to take, and one that will only ever result in loneliness, frustration, and failure. If you’re going through a tough time, or simply want to get the most out of your life, the very best thing that you can do is to reach out to the people around you for support. But in order to do to that, you have to ask yourself one simple question: do you need help?

Emotional support

https://www.pexels.com/photo/beach-ocean-sea-togetherness-42504/

The most common way in which many people refuse help is on an emotional level. This is something that often affects men more significantly. This is not because men are somehow less capable of dealing with things that happen to them, but because long-standing cultural stereotypes tell men that asking for help is the worst thing that they can do. Men are less likely to reach out to other people for help or even to let them know that something is wrong. This leads them to bottle things up and simply refuse to acknowledge that there is a problem. Of course, this isn’t something that exclusively impacts men, but rather something that far too many people seem to believe. In reality, the bravest and strongest thing that you can do is to admit that something is wrong and reach out to others. Friends and family are there for you and will be able to provide the support that you really need.

Professional help

https://www.flickr.com/photos/87781710@N02/8343819455

However, friends and family aren’t always the most qualified people to give you the help that you need. If you find yourself in serious trouble, then it may well be worth reaching out for professional help. Whether you need the help of things like the recovery resources in Loveland, or the support of a medical professional, there are plenty of different places that you can go if you feel as though you need professional help. Once again, there is no shame in this. The best thing that you can do is to acknowledge the problem and try to fix it. This is one of the strongest and most mature things that you can do.

Financial support

https://www.pexels.com/photo/person-holding-black-and-grey-pen-163032/

Money is something that people really don’t like to talk about. People see it as crass and vulgar to do so, and that money should be something totally private. While there’s something to be said for this attitude, it can lead people to refuse to accept support when they need it. Your finances are tied up, inexorably with your ability to live your life. If you need help on a financial level and you’re not accepting it, you’re simply letting pride get in the way of living your life comfortably and happily. Whether its reaching out to friends and family, or and support from the government that can help you get back on your feet, there’s nothing wrong with needing a boost every now and then. Just until you can take back control of your own finances.

A Happier Lifestyle: Getting Out Of That Rut And Reclaiming Your Strut

Picture Source

There is no single answer to the perfect lifestyle. We all find ourselves in ruts from time to time, whether that’s due to stress at work, unhappiness at home, or a general sense of unfulfillment in life as a whole. The ironic thing is that it’s always harder to pull yourself out of that rut once you’re in it. Motivation, inspiration, and the desire to change are all things which are hard to come by once your mind is in a bad place.

Nonetheless, all is not lost. There’s always a way to make changes today towards being the happier person that you’ve always wanted to be. Sometimes there isn’t always a quick fix; it’s about making gradual steps towards happiness and improving day by day. If you feel as if you’ve tried everything to get back on your feet but nothing has changed either your mind or your physical life then here are some pieces of advice which might help you get out of that rut and reclaim your strut.

Get a health check

Staying up-to-date with health checks is essential to keep you feeling at your best. Detecting any health issues early gives you the best chance to resolve them fast. As well as attending general health checks, it is also crucial to schedule appointments at a hearing center. Getting your hearing assessed regularly is vital, especially as you get older. Likewise, it is important to arrange eye exams to protect your vision.

Take better care of your body.

A healthy body is absolutely vital to a happy life, and this isn’t a commercial. It’s something we all know but very few of us fully accept; the state of your body is fragile but also integral to your health and happiness. As a place to start, a healthy diet should obviously be a priority in your life. Eating well will help improve your figure and reduce the risk of health problems in the future, but the food you eat also affects your mind, so this could be the first step towards clearing your mind and functioning more effectively throughout the day on a physical level.

A job that was once exciting but now seems exhausting might suddenly gain a new lease of life in fresh eyes when you take better care of itself, but you’ll know that the problem lies outside of you if it doesn’t. The best way to take a good look at your life and the many aspects of your daily routine is to take care of yourself and get into a happier head space. You’ll not only be happier with the way you look, but you’ll be healthier on a practical level. On the topic of mental health…

Take better care of your mind.

Happiness is in the mind, so it makes sense that the key to finding a lifestyle which makes you happier lies not only in looking at your life on an external level but also in looking at it on an internal level. Your mind will tell you so much about what’s going wrong in your current lifestyle but you have to give yourself time during the day to reflect, recharge and focus on you. Practicing meditation is a great way to achieve this, as we spend our days frantically rushing around and completing so many tasks that we rarely remember to just exist.

Throughout the day, take a few minutes here and there to focus on your breathing, and let your mind roam freely. You need to recharge and reboot if you want to get to the root of what’s holding you back from happiness in life. The key is to fix whatever’s affecting your brain and make changes towards better mental health because this is just as important as maintaining good physical health.

Make a big change.

Often, you might find that your life is lacking because you’re no longer challenging yourself. Our younger years are fast-paced and ever-evolving, and this is why adulthood is such a sharp and unexpected change for so many of us. You were learning a multitude of things every day, going new places, and doing new things, but now you’re stuck in the same job and you feel as if nothing’s changing. However, age shouldn’t stop you from retaining that same energy and desire for newness that you felt when you were younger.

It’s never too late and it’s never too foolish to make a big change in your life. It doesn’t even have to be something you want to do; it could be something which scares you. You could look into real estate abroad and make a new life for yourself in a brand new country. You could move into a brand new industry which always intrigued you but you never had the guts to approach. The point is that there’s no “one way” to live life. We’re all taught to take a rigid and predefined path, but the truth is that we’re all on different paths. If you want to get out of that rut then get out of that rut. It doesn’t matter how you do it; challenge yourself, and keep on challenging yourself so that you find the happiness and vitality you miss from your youth.

Picture Source

Learn a new skill.

Continuing from previous points, happiness can be found in an active and stimulated brain. When you find yourself in a physical rut, due to the monotonous nature of an endlessly repeating daily routine, it’s likely that your mind founds itself trapped in a rut and your lifestyle no longer seems joyous or fulfilling. Of course, we’re only as trapped as we let ourselves believe we are.

It’s up to you to take control of the reins of your life and start to make moves towards being a happier and more fulfilled person. Learn something new today, and don’t stop learning new things tomorrow. That’s the key to happiness and an interesting life. Never stop forcing your brain to reinvent itself. You don’t have to become a musical genius overnight; learning something different could involve talking to a new person every day and seeing the world through a stranger’s eyes.

Focus on one thing at a time.

There’s an interesting article which highly rates the idea of single-tasking. This, simply put, entails that we should all focus on one thing at a time. Rather than trying to complete a million things each day and doing a half-decent job of each one, you should be challenging yourself to complete a single task really well over a day or a long period of time. You’ll be more productive and pleased with your overall achievements if you narrow your focus in life.

Seek the Standard of Life That You Deserve

Everybody has a standard of life that they absolutely should be afforded. Yes, these standards may be relative due to any number of extenuating circumstances. Circumstances such as geographical location, affluence and health, amongst many other things. But, nevertheless, no matter what life you are afforded you deserve it to be of the highest possible standard. Sometimes, however, you have to fight for this standard. Sometimes, you have to seek it yourself. Below are a few instances where you might need to do so, as well as a few ways to do so.

Image source

Due to the medical advances of today everybody deserves to be as healthy as can be. Everybody deserves to be able to feel well and comfortable within themselves at all times. And upon the unfortunate instance of an injury or illness, those stricken deserve to be treated so that they reach the standard of health they deserve again quickly. But it’s up to you, if you are stricken with the plight that is bad health, to seek something that will help you retain the health you once had. One such example is irritable bowel syndrome. This is an all-too-common occurrence in life in which those stricken with it experience a host of uncomfortable scenarios such as cramping, bloating and constipation. And those who are stricken with it are definitely not experiencing the standard of healthy they deserve, which is why they should seek IBS relief. By doing so they would be able to recapture the standard of life that should rightfully be theirs.

Another plight of life that should be fought in order to retain the deserved standard of living is uncleanliness. Everybody deserves to live in a clean environment. Nobody should be forced to live in squalor. And because this is the case you have to keep atop of your home’s cleanliness. You have to ensure you take the trash out at all times. And you have to ensure rubbish removal companies, whether they be private or municipal, are taking this trash away from you. If this doesn’t happen, then you are putting yourself in danger of not attain the standard of cleanliness that you deserve. And another way to fight this is to have professional cleaning take place in your home. That way you could be sure that no potential harmful bacteria, or even pests, would be lurking around your premises. Just lurking and waiting to ruin both your standard of cleanliness and your standard of life!

If you suffer with any of the plights of life. Whether they be health related. Whether they be related to the cleanliness of your environment. Or whether they be anything else at all. Just know you don’t deserve to have to stand for them, and you don’t have to either. You just have to be willing to take a stand against them and fight them with the tools that are on offer. So, go! Go fight the plights and capture, or recapture, the standard of life that you deserve!

Depression: Do You Have It?

The thing about life is that there will be times where we feel down. We might receive unpleasant news or perhaps have a bad day at work. There’s nothing we can do to always remain in a happy mood and in high spirits. We just have to accept that, at times, we’ll feel sad or upset about stuff.

Some people experience more downs than ups in their lives. If that sounds like you, it could be that you might be suffering from depression. Believe it or not, most people suffer from depressive stages in their lives. It can often stay with people most of their lives, or, if they’re lucky, they could only experience an episode of depression just once.

A lot of folks don’t realize they have depression until an extreme action or series of events occurs in their lives. In today’s blog post, you’ll learn more about depression and what you can do to combat it.

Image Obtained From Pexels

What is depression?

In a nutshell, depression makes it hard to lead a “normal” life. When a person suffers from it, emotions such as hopelessness and despair take over and leave them in permanently low spirits.

Learning more about depression can help you understand why you feel like you do and how to get help.

Symptoms of depression

Some sufferers describe having depression as feeling like they are permanently living under a black cloud. They’ll also say things like they feel nothing ever goes right for them, and that they just feel emotionally hollow inside.

Common symptoms of depression include:

  • Feeling helpless;
  • Finding daily activities uninteresting;
  • Unexplained weight gain or loss;
  • Problems sleeping;
  • Feeling angry and irritable, and having a low tolerance level;
  • Feeling physically drained and having no energy;
  • Inability to concentrate;
  • Behaving in a reckless manner (compulsive gambling, substance abuse, etc.);
  • Feeling suicidal.

There are also differing forms of depression. Many people get diagnosed with chronic depression, for instance. People with severe depression and extreme mood changes may even get diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

The weather can also be another form and cause of depression for thousands of individuals. S.A.D. or “Seasonal Affective Disorder” can make people feel depressed during the winter months of the year. Or, indeed, any of the other seasons. The Canada Pharmacy Online offers some telltale signs of S.A.D. in case you feel that is something you are suffering.

How to treat depression

Admitting that you have a problem and that you think you might be depressed is the first step to getting help. The next, of course, is to talk to your doctor about your depression. They’ll ask you some simple questions to diagnose your level of depression.

Once they do that, you can agree on an action plan with your doctor. Usually, that means starting a course of antidepressants such as fluoxetine (i.e. Prozac) and seeking cognitive behavioral therapy. You may also benefit from counseling to help you beat your depression.

Final thoughts

Depression might feel like you’re in a black hole that you’ll never escape, but that’s not the case at all. There are people out there that care and want to help you get better. Remember that there’s always someone to talk to, even if you feel like all hope is lost.
Good luck, and thank you for reading this article.

Pain Is Not The Path To Holiness, It’s Just Bad Pain Management

In the theological learnings, pain is the only path to holiness, as men are in the world to please God. Pain is one of the many tests of their existence that can help them to experience sacredness and holiness. While there is some beauty in this thought, there’s no denying that pain is not a divine gift, but an endless sorrow. As there are different types of pains, there are also different ways of coping with it. While not of them for sure lead to divine holiness – although nothing is certain, there’s been no studies proving that it doesn’t either –, finding the appropriate coping mechanism or solution can dramatically improve your lifestyle. So what is the right pain management for your trouble? Find out here.

Physical Pain Can Limit Your Experience Of Life

Physical pain, whether it is the result of unexplained chronic pain or a fall, imposes certain limitations on your life. Suddenly you don’t find yourself able to walk to the shops without experience sharp leg pain or to sit down through your favorite TV show without needing to stand up regularly to release the pressure on your back. It is important to note that physical pain doesn’t come from an injury per se but your nerves communicating information to your brain. As a result, damaged nerves can be a likely cause of chronic pain, when there is no obvious cause. Unfortunately, pain is relative, and for some a 2 on the scale of pain can become an 8 for others; everyone responds differently to pain. Be patient with yourself and keep healthy, natural remedies with herbs and warmth to handle your pain without creating an addiction to medicine. Do also make sure to have medical assistance about managing it more effectively.

Withdrawal Pain: When The Brain Needs Rewiring

One of the biggest pain taboo of this time is drug addiction, and specifically the damages that the addiction does to the brain. It’s no lack of willpower that stops addicts from embracing a healthier lifestyle; it’s the fear of withdrawal pain. Addiction changes the wiring in your brain and creates a series of physical  behaviors in relation to the drug abuse: Cold sweat, anger and anxiety disorder, and tremors are not uncommon symptoms of early withdrawal between each take, forcing the addict to pursue the addiction to avoid further discomfort. Rapid Detox has started a treatment to stop the physical pain and help kickstart a healthy recovery journey. In one treatment, the physical pain of withdrawal is targeted by inducing sleep for the patient. This quick detox approach is a great recovery step.

Leaving the addiction for good

Emotional Pain Needs Healing Too

Not every pain is physical. Emotional pain can handicap your everyday life in the same way than a broken leg would. Rejection, loneliness, loss, and guilt are some of the most common burdens that people carry through life. It’s often too easy to turn to self-criticism, hatred and sometimes and harm as a response to hurtful situations. The mind needs to accept emotional accidents of life and learn to deal effectively with them. This can only be done by focusing on your own strength and by using them as a way of rebuilding your self-worth. Bad things happen, but they are in a no way a reflection of yourself.

The Road To Recovery From Addiction Must Be Steady

Beating addiction isn’t all about suffering withdrawal and get it out of your system. There are a lot of people going through recovery for the first time who believe they can brute force it. That, however, tends to ignore the problems of their habits and their own personality that can send them crashing into a relapse. To fully recover, you need to be as steady as a stream and as watchful as an eagle.

Know your triggers

We all have little triggers for unconscious behaviors that can dominate a lot of our reactions to events. One example is how we tend to turn our feet towards the person we find most interesting in a group conversation. A more pertinent example is how social gatherings, like parties, tend to be a big trigger for anyone with recreational drug or alcohol dependencies. Old friends, familiar settings, and unattended drugs and alcohol are some other common triggers. You need to learn to deal with those triggers by learning to be mindful. Practicing mindfulness means being acutely aware of one’s own reactions and why they are happening as they are. When in doubt, you should always consider removing the triggers from your environment or choosing another environment. Shrugging off old friends and social scenes can be one of the most difficult parts of the recovery process. If there are people who don’t respect your attempts, however, perhaps they shouldn’t be your friends.

Find new coping mechanisms

Even without triggers, you are going to feel those old itches and urges resurfacing again. Get your support system involved

If you have friends and family who believe in your ability to recover, then it’s a good idea to get them involved in helping that recovery. With the right recovery process from alcohol and drug use, they can get the kind of education on how to be more supportive and more emotionally prepared to help you in the journey. At rehab, you can ask them to send you care packages which serve as a good memento of the positive influences willing your recovery. It can be embarrassing, but asking for help from the right people can be a great asset in your recovery. It’s also a good idea to use support groups and surround yourself with people who can understand your journey to a deeper degree.

Make recovery measurable

Many recovery processes and support groups will offer tokens of how long you’ve stayed clean. You shouldn’t just measure your successes in terms of how long you’ve stayed from your dependencies, however. You should measure all success in your life. If you’ve found a new job, if you’ve taken up a new hobby, if you’ve written a chapter, or run for longer than before: celebrate it. Self-esteem and self-respect can be earned, you just have to take stock of how far you’ve come.

Recovery is beyond no-one. Developing the will-power and the self-awareness are goals that anyone can achieve. They just need the right tools, like those above, to do it.
