5 Common IT Issues In Small Businesses

Photo by Caspar Camille Rubin on Unsplash

When running your own business there are lots of different issues you can come across, especially when it comes to your IT services. Whether it’s a problem with your hardware or a security breach, you need to ensure you have as little downtime as possible when it comes to your business. With that in mind, here are 5 common IT issues small businesses should avoid:

– Unpredictable System Outages

Although it’s hard to avoid unpredictable system outages, making sure you’re using reputable companies is a great way to ensure this happens as little as possible. Whether it’s the company you use for your server or the people who host your website, you need to sure it’s not going to stop all of a sudden. For a guide to choosing great service providers, you can visit this site here.

– Endless Computer Issues

One of the most common issues people face when running their business revolves around their computer or laptop. Although you may have a little bit of experience when it comes to IT, often the issues that arise are too complicated to fix on your own. In that situation, it’s always best to ensure you’re asking an IT support team or professional for help. Not only will they be able to help you fix your issue, but they’ll also be able to tell you how to prevent it happening again. For more information about preventative maintenance, you can visit this site here.

– Problems With Cyber Security

Cybersecurity is another important issue when it comes to IT within your business, and it’s important you’re doing everything you can keep your computer safe. This means using secure email systems, password protecting files and ensuring you have trusted antivirus software on your computer. For more tips and tricks when it comes to keeping your IT systems safe, you can visit this guide here.

– Difficulty Accessing Files

Although this isn’t as common, people often experience difficulties accessing files. Whether it’s because they don’t have the recommended software or they have corrupted the file, not being able to open an important document can result in complications within your business. If this happens, the best options it to contact someone who knows how to regain access to files or to search online for the best possible solutions. Whilst you may find tools that claim they can change corrupted files, be careful of what you’re downloading.

– Slow Computers And Software

Finally, the most common issue people will face is a slow computer or slow software on their computer. Whilst this is often due to the quality of the computer, maintenance also plays a big part. Keeping on top of the filing systems and the programmes on your computer is the best way to ensure everything runs as it should. Keep things clutter-free and your computer will run as smoothly as it did when you first bought it.

Are you facing a lot of IT issues as a small business? What can you do to help prevent them? Let me know in the comments section below.

Are You Ready To Launch Your Digital Business from Home?

If you have been thinking about owning your own online business for a while, you will need to know that it can be a bumpy road, and you cannot expect results immediately. Instead of just doing what others are doing, you will have to come up with a strategy that is similar to the one you would create if you were to launch a brick-and-mortar business. Below you will find a few tips to increase your chances for success.

Improve Your Skills

There are certain skills entrepreneurs need to succeed. The first one is more like an attitude; self-discipline. You will need to focus on making the most out of your time, so managing your calendar and prioritizing your tasks is going to go a long way. You should make the most out of your existing skills and focus on the development areas; take responsibility for your own personal development.

Enroll In a Course

Image via PxHere

If you have been working for an employer for a long time, you will need to change your attitude and become an entrepreneur. You will have to take responsibility for your own learning, and this means that you might need to enroll in a college course to get an IT qualification that will make you more effective in creating content or building websites. After all, you will have a limited budget, and every cent you save will help you invest more in your business.

Consider Affiliate Marketing If You Are Just Starting Up

When you are starting a digital business, chances are that you will not have a product or service yet. This doesn’t mean that you cannot make money, though. You can start affiliate marketing on a zero budget, provided that you can generate enough traffic to get conversions. After all, you should first get to know the industry and avoid investing a lot of money into developing your own product or service.

Create an Action Plan

Image via CMSWire

If you would like to succeed in affiliate marketing, it is important that you create an action plan that will help you stay focused on the end goal; profits. You should identify the steps you have to take to make it work for you; not enough traffic will kill your business, and offers that don’t convert will kill your profits. Consider building a sales funnel that will automate most of your marketing processes.

Set a Target for Everything

If you want to manage working from home, you will need to develop a high sense of responsibility and discipline. Track your productivity throughout the day, and make sure that you are able to optimize it through implementing technology and marketing automation. After all, you are not setting up a business to sit in front of the laptop 24/7.

In case you have been itching to get started and build your own business from home, you will need to consider investing in your skills and personal developments, and create a detailed plan of action.

The Essential Guide To Becoming An Ebay Entrepreneur

If you are struggling to work out where your strengths lie in terms of going it alone and launching your own startup, why not consider the lucrative world of eBay entrepreneurship? The synonymous online auction site has been around since 1995 and was one of the very first real successes of the Silicon Valley dot-com bubble of ideas. Fast forward over two decades and eBay is the number one platform for all sorts of goods and products ranging from the second-hand to the brand new. While it was once seen as a nifty way of getting rid of your unwanted bits of junk, eBay is now viewed as the ultimate online platform to launch your very own retail empire. So, how can you make a success of your new foray into online shopping? Read on to find out.

Descriptions And Photos

The most important aspect of your eBay business are the product descriptions you utilise. It doesn’t matter whether you are importing the latest piece of flexible tubing for gas engineers or whether you sell custom-made tee shirts, you need to make all of your descriptions uniform and consistent. Use subheadings and bullet points to make them easy to read. Point out any flaws and be honest about your product. A vintage item isn’t going to be a hundred percent perfect but it will be authentic so sell this aspect of it.

Another key aspect of your sales pages will be the items themselves. Take photographs from all angles and point out the flaws (if there are any). Make sure that you utilise your photograph allowance. If you are allowed twelve, don’t just put up three. Make sure they are in focus, the background is plain and you have a range of close up shots to show detail and wider angle compositions.

Customer Service

It’s important that you present a professional outfit if you are planning to make your eBay empire your full time profession. Consider using some packaging design software to brand the boxes you place your items in before they are shipped. This creates a more formal and professional image and your logo can be consistently applied across all merchandise and online platforms.

Implement a strategy of under promising and over delivering. If you know that you can deliver an item in two days, state on your delivery policy that you will get it there in three. Then, when a product arrives a day early, your customer will be pleasantly surprised and will be more inclined to leave positive feedback for your startup. On eBay, your reputation is vital, so make sure you limit any possibility of negative reviews.

Link To Social Media

By utilising the power of social media, you can direct people to the relevant product pages of your eBay listings. Giving your eBay site greater visibility online helps you to maintain a strong online presence for your brand. By linking directly from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, you are easily broadening your potential customer base.

Ebay is a fantastic platform from which to launch a retail business. Follow this guide, and begin your e-commerce empire in the most successful way.

Genuine Ways To Make Money From Home

The concept of making money from home is something that has really taken off over the last decade, and although it’s been something that people have talked about for a good bit longer than that, previously it was considered to be something sleazy or in some cases illegal.

However thanks to things like social media and the internet making it easier than ever for people to set up online businesses and work according to their own terms and set their own hours, this is now becoming the norm, so if you’re looking for a way to make money from home but you’re worried about getting caught up in a scam then in this post we’re going to share with you some of the genuine ways that you can make money from home.

Freelancing:

Setting yourself up as a freelancer is possibly one of the easiest ways to start making money from home, and doesn’t require much in the way of start-up costs like other businesses do. The easiest way to get started as a freelancer is to decide on a professional service that you could offer that people would pay for. For example, you could offer copywriting for businesses, you could offer a graphic design, or you could even offer something like accounting or bookkeeping services. There are endless ways that you could work as a freelancer, and the great thing about it is you get to decide your own hours, work on your own schedule and effectively decide how much you earn as well, so it’s a very flexible way to make money from home especially if you have a family and other commitments to work around.

Physical Products:

If you’re someone who likes to create things by yourself then you could have a good chance of creating a business from home that allows you to sell your products. You could sell things like skin care, candles, or even t-shirts and then have them branded and have the labels made for them by hiring a branding company to do this – to find out more about getting labels made for your physical products, you can click here for more info. Of course setting up a physical product business takes a bit more effort than an online business  where you’re only selling digital products, but it’s still a great way to make money from home selling your own items.

Affiliate Marketing:

Affiliate marketing is a very popular way to make money from home, and it really doesn’t require much of an effort once you get it set up properly. Affiliate marketing works by recommending the products and services of other people, such as skin care products, technology gadgets, or even clothing. Pretty much anything can be used by affiliate marketers in order to generate revenue for themselves and for the people who own the products that they are recommending. A good way to start with affiliate marketing is to set up a blog around a niche topic, such as vegan skin care and then create content that links back to this product through an affiliate link whereby you then receive a commission for every person who clicks on your link and buys the product.

Technology And The Workplace

Pexels

In the last few decades, we have all seen technology creep into every part of our lives, and the workplace is no different. Whether you run a business or are just an employee, you should always be looking for ways to make the most of tech in your role. This could cover a broad range of areas and so we are going to take a look at some of the way the digital landscape could be beneficial to you.

Productivity

There is an old saying that it is better to work smarter rather than harder, it can be used as a joke but when it comes to productivity it is actually a good philosophy. The reason for that is the smarter your working environment is, the more likely it is that you are going to produce better more efficient work. And that is where technology comes in, through the use of a variety of applications and software you will be able to improve productivity across your workforce and personally. Now, that could be through cloud computing software like Vertex or apps that are designed specifically for the workplace.

  • Project Management

One of the areas of work that has been boosted exponentially by technology is project management. Through apps that have been designed specifically to assist your team with getting results with their respective projects, you can manage tasks through a single portal that is accessible by anyone you give permissions to. This means that team leaders and managers can have complete control over their team’s workload from a remote location thanks to apps like Todoist and Asana.

  • Communications

If there is one thing that gets in the way of productivity it is the role communications plays in our workforce. While email has been a time-saver compared to the more traditional methods, it can still slow down the process of getting a task complete. Likewise the endless meetings and telephone calls that have become a regular fixture in the working calendar. That is why apps like Basecamp and Microsoft Teams are so useful, it allows you to set up chat groups and instant messaging services so your teams can be in constant communications or use video chat for meetings instead of organising time away from the desk.

Pexels

Security

Another area of working life that needs to be helped by ever-evolving technology is that of security. It is fair to say that the business world has seen a range of new threats that have arisen as a result of moving towards digital working spaces. However, the answers are also through using technology and shouldn’t be ignored. The only way to be confident that you can combat the rise of cyber crime is by having a comprehensive strategy to fight against it.

The previously mentioned cloud systems can be incredibly helpful in preventing cyber crimes, but so too is just ensuring you have a strong antivirus and firewall system installed. Educating your staff in the threats that could arrive in their inbox is also an absolute must and but using combative software first and foremost is the best route to take.

Finding Help And Support Online

We all need advice from time to time, and the internet can be a great place to find it. There are many reasons for finding help and support online. Perhaps you need help learning how to do something, or you feel embarrassed discussing problems with friends and family – whatever the reason, there are plenty of channels you can find the support you need.

Read blogs from like-minded people

Blogs can be a fantastic way to connect, especially if you have an interest in a particular subject. Many bloggers have a specific ‘niche’ that means they’ll only really write about certain topics. This could be a dietary or a health-based blog, or even about something completely random. Whatever your interest or your concern, you can be sure there’s a blog from someone who’s like you. Reading the advice and experience of others can help provide you with support and reassurance. It’s also worth noting that the blogging world can be a very engaging one, so it’s worth opening up and having conversations with a blogger if you want to discuss something in more depth.

Why not start your own blog and help someone else who might be experiencing the same thing as you?

Visit charities and other websites for advice

Charity and health websites can be excellent sources of information. If you’ve been diagnosed with an illness or a problem, then these websites can be useful, informed resources for finding out the information you need. They can also point you in the direction of where to get further advice or how to talk to someone if needed. Remember to only visit trusted websites by organizations that you’ve heard of, as many people put out fake information online that could cause potential harm.

Explore forums and discussion boards

It’s not always easy to speak to family and friends about your problems, but discussion boards and forums could be a good place to get the advice you need as well as share your problems with other. Forums like Inspire bring people together, providing a safe place to share thoughts and ideas. While you should never go through something alone, an online support group can be a good place to start until you’re ready to speak to someone in your life offline.

Whatever you need help and support with, the internet can offer many avenues to help you get it. When talking to people online, it’s important to remember that you are talking to strangers, after all, so be familiar with the risks and precautions to take when chatting online. While it’s easy to go online to seek advice, remember that there are people you can talk to offline too, friends, family, and your doctor are all sources you should trust to confide in, so don’t be afraid to open up to them to help you get the support you need.

Guide To Healthcare IT Project Management

There is no denying that healthcare IT projects are on the rise. There are a number of different reasons why this is the case. In recent years, there have been many data breach attacks on healthcare businesses. The reason this industry has been targeted is because a lot of medical centres and businesses have been using outdated systems. Because of this, a lot of projects involving cyber security are taking place. There are also projects that deal with moving healthcare businesses forward in terms of implementing new software and technologies. With that being said, in this blog post, we are going to take a look at hiring IT teams to handle projects in the healthcare sector.

https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2015/07/17/22/43/student-849822__340.jpg

The fast pace of business development in both healthcare and IT

Recent research has indicated that project managers in the IT and healthcare sector are struggling to keep up with the pace of business development, and this is resulting in project failures. The findings indicate that effective project management is the key to unlocking success in the IT industry specifically, which could result in us seeing a rise in project management courses and project management apprenticeships. Read on to discover everything that you need to know about it.

The statistics you need to know about

A recent survey conducted by Axelos has revealed that almost one-third of IT projects are at risk of failure. This represents £254.3 billion of losses in regards to turnover, which is quite a startling and worrying statistic. The survey involved interviewing 500 project leaders, and 76 per cent of those surveyed stated that projects have become more challenging to deliver because of the more competitive environment we find ourselves in due to the current economic climate. Project failure is something no business can afford, but this is especially the case in the healthcare sector whereby downtime is simply not an option.

The survey also revealed that almost three-quarters of project leaders stated that their project timelines and budgets have become a lot tighter over the past year. A similar portion also stated that stakeholders are now demanding greater value for less outlay. It is, therefore, little surprise that 48 per cent of project managers also stated that their profit margins have lowered over the past 12 months. Furthermore, half of those interviewed said they face challenges in finding the right people to resource for their projects, 55 per cent said they have to deal with business practice evolutions, which make projects more complicated. And, 58 per cent of those surveyed said that risk has increased because of the change in business.

Getting the right help

It is quite clear to see that in order to achieve business growth, healthcare firms need to focus on improving their approach to IT projects. Outside assistance from experts come highly recommended, and this is something you can discover more about at http://thinkwgroup.com/. The survey also indicated that we cannot simply blame external factors for the increasing incidence of project failure. There is also a clear indication that processes aren’t robust enough, especially those relating to skills and resourcing. 65 per cent of project leaders state that project delivery is demanded in much less time than before, however, they aren’t benefiting from on-going skills training. Only 12 per cent of employers provide project leaders with budgets for continued learning, and only 35 per cent of those interviewed said that employee numbers have increased. Training existing employees in IT matters is likely to be inefficient for most healthcare firms, which is why outsourcing talent in this regard is the best route to go down.

All in all, it is quite clear to see the importance of project management when it comes to the success or failure of a business. It is also evident where we are going wrong at the moment. We are expecting project teams to achieve much more in less time, and we are expecting them to do this in more a complex economic environment. Despite this, we are not giving them the tools they need to succeed. We aren’t investing enough in project management training, nor or we hiring the personnel that is required to take projects forward. By making these changes, we can expect to see businesses grow and take great strides forward.

Online Marketing Strategies For Those On A Budget

When it comes to growing your business online, marketing is right at the heart of everything you do, but it can be extremely overwhelming when you go online and see the big gurus and entrepreneurs with the flashy marketing and telling you that you need to have this strategy or this system otherwise you’ll definitely fail.

Not only is it untrue that there’s just one marketing strategy, tool or system that will work for you, but it’s also not necessary for your marketing to be flashy or cost a lot of money. Although it’s always great to be able to invest at higher levels and make your marketing look more professional and polished, but this is not necessary for success, and is only something you should do if it makes practical and financial sense for your business.

In this post, we’re going to share with you some of the top online marketing strategies that you can try out to see which ones are best suited to you, and the great thing about these strategies is that they’re simple enough that anyone can use them, and they really work well no matter what your marketing or start up budget is.

Blogging:

If you have any kind of online business – even if you have an offline business, you should be using the power of blogging to share great content with your audience. If you’ve never blogged before, you may feel a bit overwhelmed with the process, but really the best thing to do is come up with a list of topics that you think your audience would be interested in learning about and then creating some posts in advance around that, once you’ve created some posts in advance so you can schedule them out and remain consistent, since consistency is what contributes to growth.

Podcasting:

Creating a podcast show is another great way to reach an audience of people who may be interested in your products and services, and the great thing is you don’t need to come up with new and separate content each time. You can repurpose the blog content or take snippets of each post and then expand on it. Don’t worry about repeating yourself because not everyone consumes content in the same format – some people prefer blogs or videos, whilst others prefer podcasts.

Webinars:

Webinars are a fantastic marketing strategy when done right. They have gotten a bit of a bad rap in recent years because some people have been using them in a very sleazy way and only looking to make sales without delivering any real value. However, if you have a high value product or service such as coaching, copywriting, or even IT Support Services, then you could create a webinar that provides great value around one of these and then pitch your services at the end.

Social Media:

Social media is not about making sales, but building connections and relationships. If you’re able to do this with your audience, then the sales will come, so make sure you’re utilizing the power of social media for marketing your business online.

Reasons why You need to Start Upgrading your Business Software

If you operate your own business then you will know more than anyone how important it is for you to rely on technology and even software. After all, if you aren’t using software then you are probably doing everything by hand and this can cost you tons of time and it also leaves a lot of room for error as well. If you are not upgrading or updating your software on a regular basis then there is a high chance that this is affecting your business as well, in more ways than you realise.

Multiple Software

If you find that you are using multiple software applications to try and handle your business activity then this is a clear sign that you need to upgrade. Some companies find themselves using one software for their billing, another for their shipping and then a third to manage their inventory. This is the last thing that you need, because believe it or not, you are still managing most of your business by hand.  Click here to find out more about an order management system that will cover it all, making your life a lot easier. After all, you have to key in and update the data across all three applications and you don’t want this when you have so much going on in the day. When you upgrade your software however, you can easily use a single application to track everything with automatic updates.

https://www.pexels.com/photo/apple-apple-device-design-desk-285814/

Analysing Data

Spreadsheets are ideal because they give you the chance to track data in a huge variety of ways. If you are keeping track of your sales reports, your inventory and even any other bits of information by using spreadsheets however then there is a chance that you are making your data analysis much harder than it needs to be. After all, new software is brought out every single year and if you don’t take the time to really invest in this then you will constantly be stuck in the past.

Scalability

When you run a business, you have to make sure that the resources you have are both scalable and flexible. If your software is not able to keep up with the needs of your business then it is absolutely not the right solution for you. After all, you may find that you have to continually change platforms and this is not good for you or your team. When you are able to upgrade your software to other versions however, you can then unlock more potential as you see fit. Your software can grow with your company and this is exactly what you need to ensure future success. If you are struggling to find a software that can keep up with the ever-changing needs of your business then check these guys out to see if you can get a custom software created.

https://www.pexels.com/photo/adult-books-business-coffee-374016/

Professionalism

The more outdated your software is, the more mistakes you will make. This is the last thing that you need when you are trying to remain professional to your customers. Sure, you may feel a though the solution that you have now is working and you may feel as though it’s easier to stick with it than it is to change but this is never the case and sooner or later it will be the downfall of your company.

Laptop and no WiFi to Go? How Your Phone Can Help!

Say you’re travelling and you have your laptop with you. But, alas, there’s no WiFi, or you don’t trust the public WiFi at the hotel or eating place you’re at, or you’re just not in an area where a WiFi connection you trust is available. An article such as this one on cellphonedeal.com can tell you about the risks to your data when you travel.

Well, if you have a smartphone, you probably have a solution!

Your laptop can use your phone’s  cellular signal to access the internet. This is what is called, “tethering“. To use it, you would need to turn on your WiFi on your laptop if it isn’t already on.

Phone on with home screen visible. 6/26/2018

Next, you would most likely go to your phone’s settings. The tethering option may be located under WiFi or connection settings or under advanced settings. Each phone is different. And, your phone may offer different methods of making the connection, either via USB cable or other means, so it’s a good idea to have a cable with you that can physically connect your phone and computer.

Once you have a connection, you’re ready to go! Now, there are some things to note.

First, please don’t think that you can now ditch your internet service at home and use your phone for free internet service!

You see, with tethering, your internet won’t be nearly as fast in many cases, because you’re using your phone’s processor. So, if you have something like a major download you want to do or something that requires a large number of open pages, you may want to skip these until you get to where you can have a safe direct WiFi or cable connection that you trust, like the one you do have at home.

And, it can also count against your phone plan’s data limit as well.

But, if you need WiFi on the fly for simpler web-based tasks, this can really help!

Happy Computing!
