Here’s What Your Business Can Do To Protect The Environment

(Pixabay CC0)

We’re not doomed to extinction just yet, but we still need to pay attention to the way we live our lives in relation to the environment around us. We are talking about our business lives as well as our personal lives, as there is much we can do to make a positive difference.

If you run your own business, there are a few things you can do to protect the environment.

#1: Leave your car at home

Rather than exposing the world to the toxic fumes caused by your exhaust pipe, why not cycle to work instead? Or car share, as at least there would be one less car on the roads. You could even work at home if remote working was possible for you, as there would then be little reason to use your car at all.

#2: Assess your damage

If you want to know more about the damage you are doing to the environment, seek the assistance of the experts. From energy auditors from your local utility company to the water sampling teams affiliated to marine research services akin to Gravity – visit their site – you might be able to assess your damage to the world around you. You would then have the incentive to make the necessary changes to your business before word gets about the damage you are causing.

#3: Limit your use of paper

Do you really need paper in your business anymore? Thanks to digital marketing techniques, you can reach your customers without being reliant on door-to-door leaflet drops. And thanks to the cloud, you can now store your files virtually instead of keeping them locked away in filing cabinets. By using less paper, you would reduce your paper waste. You would also use less electricity as there would be fewer power surges running through your printers and photocopiers. And you wouldn’t have to use a lot of ink either, so you would be adding fewer ink cartridges to your local landfill. So, in all kinds of ways, by using less paper, you could do much to protect the environment.

#4: Create a green policy

By creating a green policy, you would have a list of rules for your employees to follow. So, you could include recycling, for example, with instructions on how your staff can properly recycle the waste within your business. You could mention the appliances you use, and have instructions on when they should be powered down. And you could have rules about general behavior, such as no littering outside your business premises, and the stipulation that lights shouldn’t be left on after leaving a room.

#5: Reduce plastic waste

Rather than handing out plastic bags to your customers, you could use sustainably made alternatives. Rather than using disposable plastic cups for drinking purposes, you could encourage your staff to reuse water bottles or to bring in their own mugs from home. These are just a couple of examples, but we’re sure you can think of more.

When you make the effort to protect the environment, you will also protect your business as your reputation will be secured. So, consider our suggestions, and do your bit to save our world.

The Approaches To Finding A Creative Career (Without The Financial Hardship)

Pexels – CC0 Licence

We all feel frustrated on occasion with our current career. We find that we are dissatisfied or we need to do something that gives us more fulfillment. As a result, we start to think about a more creative career. But before you leave your current job and dive into something that you are incredibly passionate about, you have to remember the importance of financial stability. Many people would love to do something creative but in the current climate, and in general, it can prove to be a struggle. But is there a balance to maintain? Can you choose a creative career that doesn’t involve you being a starving artist?

Taking The Opportunity To Research

There are so many courses out there that can point you in the direction of a creative career but this is only one piece of the puzzle. It’s crucial to do your research but even if you decide to do a degree in movie producing does this mean you will actually start being a producer when you finish? There are plenty of careers that have a structure but also gives you the opportunity to be creative. Marketing is a very good example. Because there are so many aspects of the marketing industry, from designing products to promoting, that you can find an entryway that suits you. You could partake in a product design masters course or learn the ropes in terms of social media marketing or PR. There are so many different opportunities out there that will rely on your ability to be creative to a certain extent. You need to find the right level for you.

The Importance Of Harnessing Your Skills

If you are looking to be creative in a certain area but you don’t necessarily have the skills you don’t have to jump ship on your career. In fact, you could turn this into a hobby rather than anything else which means you have the stability of a career. It’s a very hard balance to get right. You need to be earning a regular wage but you also need to feel that you are being challenged. And this is why you have to take a long hard look at your current skills and see where these can apply in another creative outlet. For example, if you are a people person and you like working in groups there are creative careers that you may not have considered to be traditionally creative. Being a teacher is a good example. These days there are so many online opportunities to teach English as a foreign language that you can harness your creative skills in a more traditional sense. Because if you’re not willing to start all over again and undertake a new course it’s important to look at what you already have that you can sell. This is a very important thing to bear in mind when you are looking to change your career. Careers can be creative without being an art designer or working in the theater!

These two components will serve you well. It’s important to remember when choosing a creative career that if you have an aptitude for a certain type of career you may feel drawn to it but you still need to check if you have to get the relevant qualifications. And this is what will give you the edge.

When is the Right Time to Talk to HR?

As an employee, you have rights in the workplace. Hopefully you will never find yourself in a situation where you need to reassess what they are and seek professional advice but, just in case, you should be aware of what they are and how best to protect them. Your HR department is responsible for ensuring that you have a safe and comfortable experience doing your job. If there’s anything affecting that, then it might be time to speak to them. Many of us struggle with not wanting to cause a fuss but sometimes you may have cause to approach HR. Read on for some examples of times when you should definitely get in touch with the HR team.

1.   You are having a disagreement with your manager

HR have a lot of different functions, but one of their chief roles it to act as a conduit between managers and employees if there is a problem. You are entitled to a HR and/or union representative if any issues arise between you and your manager within your job role. This also includes if you have been asked to do something that seems to fall outside your usual responsibilities. You aren’t being lazy or difficult if you have been given a task that would usually fall to somebody else and it has suddenly been given to you.

2.   Training and development

Your team and department will have a training and development budget. You can approach HR to discuss training opportunities you might like to pursue. It might be through internal training, or job shadowing. Many companies are pleased for their employees to develop a greater degree of flexibility within their job roles. It means that absences, sickness and maternity can sometimes be covered internally without resorting to an internal hire. You can also discuss funding options for training or education opportunities outside work. If it will directly impact your job performance, then seeking this type of support is a positive step in your development and one your company should be encouraging. Even if not financial, you might find that you can get time off to attend classes or training and HR are the department to advise you on how to go about this.

3.   Offensive or inappropriate behavior

We are all looking for ways to have fun and make money. Sometimes though, a job is just a nine-to-five to pay the bills. Even if that’s the case, there’s no reason you should feel unhappy or, even worse, unsafe in your job. If there has been an injury or harassment incident within your workplace, it’s worth checking to see if you need to seek legal advice from a tough personal injury attorney. Although it might not feel like HR will give you impartial advice on how to go about this, it’s within their best interests and duty to act impartially and with due diligence so, if you need legal aid, then they will let you know at what point.

Remember, your HR department is there to support you. Never feel apprehensive about approaching them and, if you’re unsure, you can always precede a face-to-face meeting with an email to check in.

Modern Business Card Design Tips to Help You Stand Out

Business cards have always been an essential component when it comes to growing your business. Whether you attend public events, trade shows or even meet with potential clients in person, there’s a lot of value in producing well-designed business cards to help you stand out from the competition. So in this post, we’re going to take a look at some practical business card design tips to help you stand out.

Source: https://unsplash.com/photos/yTWq8n3-4k0 (CC0)

Ensure that you have all the necessary contact details

First, make sure you have all of the necessary contact information on your card. This should be your name, title, phone number, personal email and also the business you work for. Alternatively, the business card can be entirely about your business, so you can omit personal information and instead focus on your business.

Add a QR code to your business card

A great modern way to add information to your business card is to use a QR maker and print the code on your card. The QR code can be used to link to your website, email address or even a phone number. It’s a modern way to add a touch of information to your business card without the need for text, and it’s often seen as a more elegant solution that can save space on your card.

Use high-quality cardstock for a premium feel

Make sure the card you use is extremely high quality. You want them to be thick and sturdy to withstand a bit of punishment, and it also helps them feel better in the hand. The last thing you want is to hand a potential client a flimsy piece of card that disintegrates in their pocket.

Consider different materials for a unique business card

There are lots of unique materials that you can try for a business card. For instance, you can try a semi-transparent acrylic design or even use metal. These other materials will make your business card stand out, but they’re also a relatively heavy investment and should only be used for very special cases, such as high-profile clients and at prestigious events.

Keep your card simple but informative

Business cards have to be simple for them to be effective, but without the right information, they’re going to be useless. Try and condense the information that you want to include in your business card by isolating the most important things. For example, a brief description of your business along with your contact details is usually enough. However, a small biography of who you are is going overboard.

Don’t forget some basic design principles

There are a couple of basics that you absolutely need to follow with your business card. This can include ensuring that you are using consistency in your design, colours that complement each other and making sure that the text is easy to read. You can also utilize both sides of the business card. One side can be used for information while the other can be a unique eye-catching design to draw people’s attention.

How do You Know When it’s Time to Leave Your Job?

We all have ups and downs with our jobs. Everyone knows that things can’t be perfect all the time. But how do you know when enough is really enough and it’s time to think about moving on? If you’ve been unhappy in your place of work for a while now, but can’t quite put your finger on what the problem is, then read on for some signs that it’s definitely time to start considering other options.

1.   You can’t leave it at the door

Sometimes it’s good to vent to whoever’s at home about work. Colleagues can be annoying, your boss might have made an unfair decision, or your workload might be high at the moment. All these things can be difficult to completely switch off from. What you need to assess is how often you’re bringing negative energy home with you from work. If you find you really can’t switch off, and thoughts about work are bringing your mood down constantly, even when you’re not there, then it might be a toxic place for you right now.

2.   You dread the night before

No one likes a Sunday evening – we’d much rather it was Friday and we had the whole weekend stretching ahead of us again. But if you find yourself feeling low or in an abnormally bad mood before you have to return to work, this is a telling sign that something isn’t right.

3.   You’re too comfortable

If you want a career, something that challenges and stimulates you, an environment where you thrive and are learning new skills and developing both personally and professionally, but you feel like your current job isn’t providing that, then it’s time to really ask yourself why. Is it the job that you thought it was going to be? Or, over time, have you settled into a routine and are no longer pursuing new things? If you have regular one-to-ones with your boss, then it might be the time to raise the fact that you aren’t feeling as creatively challenged as you’d like to be. You can ask for more responsibility, or if there are additional tasks you can take on if your current workload allows.

4.   It’s a negative environment.

Unfortunately, it’s usually impossible to tell what kind of atmosphere an office has until you’ve signed your contract. And, by then, it’s usually too late to change anything. A good starting point is to know your rights in the workplace. If things are occurring in your office space that you aren’t comfortable with, or you think might be pushing the boundaries of what’s legal, see if you can find someone in Personnel to discuss this with. That might not be easy though – sometimes you need an external perspective. If you have a friend from another company who can advise you, then that can be beneficial. If something has happened to you in the workplace then never be afraid to see a tough personal injury attorney. You need to protect yourself and the workplace should never be an unsafe environment for you.

Staying Within The Speed Limit Is About To Get A Lot Easier

When you love driving, you do a lot of it. What’s more, you like to do it in style. While sitting around in traffic is par for the course, there are times when you can get out on the open road and enjoy yourself.

Unfortunately, though, you’re not perfect. And sometimes you can dip over the speed limit, especially on wide-open roads. And that can cause you to fall foul of the law.

Pixabay – CC0 License

Getting a speeding ticket is not a pleasant experience. Not only does it cost you a lot of money, but it also means that you now have points on your license, which take many years to disappear. Furthermore, it takes away from the pleasure of being out on the road. You don’t want to feel as if a cop could pull you over at any minute. You want to be able to relax and get the most out of the experience.

The good news, though, is that car manufacturers are listening and coming up with gadgets and solutions.

Adjustable Speed Limiter

Nobody wants to build a speed limiter into all cars that works automatically. People want freedom on the road. And they don’t like to feel as though they are under control. Similarly, speeding tickets are a great way for local authorities to make money, so they’re not going anywhere soon.

A growing number of companies, however, are offering their customers automatically-adjusting speed limiters. Instead of just capping a vehicle to 155 mph – as most do – these adjust their limits according to your geographic location. If the system detects that you’re in a 30 mph zone, it’ll stop you from floating above that.

The cool thing about these systems is that they’re optional, and they help protect you from the police. You can put the pedal to the metal, and your vehicle will continue cruising along under the speed limit. It takes the element of luck out of getting a ticket. And that can only be a good thing.

Gadgets That Detect Police Radar

The police measure the speed of oncoming vehicles using radar technology. Their equipment sends out a pulse of energy that bounces off the incoming car and then back again, telling them how fast it is going.

Because of it, you can actually buy equipment that detects the signal, as this radar detector buyers guide points out. These devices pick up on the EM pulses coming out of radar devices and let you know in an instant whether there’s one nearby. It means that mobile speed cameras won’t come out at you as a surprise. You’ll be ready.

Autopilot Technology

Pixabay – CC0 License

Of course, the moment machines take over the job of driving, the difficulty of staying within the speed limit goes away. We already see a large number of companies invest in autopilot technologies. And every year they continue to improve. Soon, we will have systems that can keep you under the speed limit while driving you down the highway. And soon that will extend to urban areas too.

Power to the Filipina: Investments for Every Young Filipina Professional

Keeping up with every trend is the modern woman’s downfall. While you’re busy updating your social media, you miss out on the opportunity to invest your time and finances on what will truly make an impact on your future.

There’s no better time than today to step up your game by focusing on the more relevant things in life. This means long-term investments to yourself, your relationships, and your financial security.

Your Own Place

Many assume that investing in real estate when you’re young is for generating passive income. While it’s an opportunity that comes with buying a property, there are better reasons to do it. This is especially true if you’re getting one for the first time.

Scout for a condo unit for sale in Makati to establish your independence. Housing options like condominiums are best for those who are new to living alone.

The size of your property doesn’t end all your challenges, though. You might still fall into bad habits like eating out all the time or neglecting to clean. There’s also the strenuous task of keeping track of your bills and paying them on time. Consider these a test to your character and an excellent opportunity to grow. Nothing matures a person like surviving in the world alone, especially when you’re a woman. You’ll discover it makes you a more competent person, partner, and parent in the future.

Your Personal Network

Relationships are what makes life fulfilling. This is true in your social and professional circles. With the world a smaller place today, thanks to technology, you must grow your network to get ahead in life.

“Getting ahead” doesn’t always mean staying competitive in the workplace. It’s by building relationships with people from different demographics, races, and world views that you mature.

If you’ve always found it challenging to engage strangers, sign up for personal development skills training. Join a volunteer organization. Dare to go to events alone even if they make you uncomfortable. Expanding your network might mean trying new things and spending on membership fees, but they’re investments that guarantee many returns.

Your Own Business

Starting a business, no matter how small, is daunting. Even investing in somebody else’s company can leave you restless. The reason you need to dare anyway is that entrepreneurship gives you better chances of gaining financial security. While you can achieve it with high-paying jobs, there’s more freedom and opportunities when you’re the boss.

It’s not unheard of for young female entrepreneurs to rise in the ranks and create names for themselves. Consider Melanie Perkins, the CEO, and co-founder of Canva. She pitched the idea behind the platform at nineteen years old. A little over a decade since she’s grown the business to one billion dollars

Whatever you want to invest in, make sure it’s something you’re passionate about. You might not get it right the first time, and it’s rare to make it big soon after starting. What’s important is you’re setting the momentum for an endeavor that can change your finances five to ten years from now.

No Time to Wait

Buying your own place, meeting new people, and starting a business might not be things you’ve considered doing alone. There’s a popular notion that women should reserve these for later in life or after marriage.

Don’t let these dated opinions stop you. They haven’t stopped the many women who are already headed in the direction you’re aiming for.

Concierge Medicine: Why You Should Make the Switch

Originally posted on iveeapp.com by Amber Theurer | Apr 8, 2020

concierge medicine

Recall the last time you went to your doctor’s office: You likely spent some unexpected extra time in the waiting room. You probably also waited a few weeks even to be seen, especially if it were a new primary care provider. Thankfully, the healthcare space is changing, and it’s largely in thanks to concierge medicine.

According to a survey by Merritt Hawkins, individuals wait an average of 18 minutes upon arriving at their doctor’s office, which is usually after waiting about 24 days to see a new doctor. With almost all areas of our lives becoming on-demand, from food delivery to cleaning services, it’s no surprise that accessibility is beginning to reach the medical space as well. Concierge medicine is paving the way for this evolved healthcare landscape.

What is Concierge Medicine?

With concierge medicine, patients receive personalized, accessible care. Patients pay an annual fee, and in exchange, a primary care physical agrees to offer increased attention. While costs range, a study by the American Academy found the average price for concierge medicine care is typically between $77 and $183 per month. This fee opens the door for perks, including same-day appointments, longer exam times, medication home delivery, and 24/7 communication with your physician. As concierge medicine solves most of the pain points of the traditional healthcare experience, it’s on the rise.

The Rise of Concierge Medicine

The key reason why a vast majority of physicians are moving towards concierge medicine is that it allows them to deliver outstanding care to patients. A report from the University of Wisconsin found that nearly half of primary physicians today devote less than 15 minutes to each patient visit, with the typical patients having about 1.6 visits per year. Conversely, concierge medicine physicians spend about 35 minutes on each visit, with patients maintaining an average of four visits per year. Traditional doctors have thousands of patients at any given time – concierge medicine doctors have only hundreds.

Commitment to High Quality Care

Concierge medicine allows doctors to maintain greater bandwidth, which translates to their level of care. With more time and resources, they can genuinely get to know their patients and provide attention at all times – working not only to treat ailments but also to effectively prevent them. Jeffrey Friedman M.D., director of Medicine Community Health Associates and a member of MDVIP, summarizes this best, “Having a deep understanding of my patients, from their medical history, to how things need to be explained to each one, so they understand what they need to do and why means I have to put in the time and effort. The only way I’m able to deliver the highest quality medical care is by being a concierge physician.”

Benefits of Concierge Medicine

Round-the-Clock Doctor Accessibility

With concierge medicine, you can maintain a constant stream of communication with your primary care physician. It’s standard for concierge medicine patients to contact their doctor via call, text, email, and even Skype and FaceTime. Additionally, most concierge doctors guarantee same-day or next-day appointments. Consistent contact allows patients to have an answer to their medical questions at any time – even after traditional business hours. Say your sick or need a prescription refill. Concierge medicine care lets you skip the wait, office time, and copay.

Personalized Care
Longer and more frequent appointments provide an opportunity for concierge doctors to know you on a deeply personal level. Therefore, they can obtain more information about your daily habits and issues that might have an impact on your overall health.

With more time for patient communication and attention, concierge doctors can provide quicker results. For example, internists can order tests, read results, and arrange biopsy in a matter of days, rather than a matter of weeks. With specialized care, concierge medicine not only provides treatment, but it also relieves much of the anxieties surrounding medical issues.

Preventive, Not Reactive Solutions
Since concierge doctors have regular communication and face time with patients as well as more time, they can heavily emphasize preventive care. Traditionally, physicians address issues affecting a patient at one point in time and prescribe a quick solution, often ignoring previous events that compounded to create the problem. Conversely, concierge doctors look at the whole patient, analyzing their health history upon each visit. In turn, concierge doctors can identify and diagnose issues as they are arising, instead of after they have already escalated.

Management of All Aspects of Care
Concierge medicine takes a complete look at the patient. Familiarized with your entire medical history, concierge doctors can not only make intuitive connections, but they can also recommend specialists as needed. Think of your concierge medicine physician as a source that both stores and processes your medical data. When they can’t provide you a specific treatment, they can skillfully point you in the direction of one who can and communicate the information needed to do so.

Tips for Making the Switch

With any innovation, there are pros and cons. Since your relationship with your concierge medicine physician is vital, a bit of exploration is needed to find the perfect fit. Here are some tips for getting concierge medicine right:

1. Find the Right Doctor
Begin with the American Academy of Private Physicians, a search tool that allows you to locate concierge doctors by state. You can also find a doctor through a concierge physician network, like MDVIP. Doctors who are a part of concierge medicine systems typically charge a flat fee per year and maintain a strict cap on the number of patients their practices can see. While traveling, patients can also visit the nearest doctor affiliated with said network.

2. Make a House Call
While the majority of the time, you will communicate with your doctor remotely, it’s essential you have a feel for the environment that their practice creates. Before you commit, visit the doctor’s office. Ask relevant questions like how long appointments are, what services are included, and how responsive the physicians are. Keep in mind that as concierge medicine practices limit their patients, you may end up on a waitlist for your top choices.

3. Check Your Insurance
Health care coverage for concierge medicine care varies on a state by state and practice by practice basis. Your health policy may offer procedures that your annual concierge fee may not cover. You may have to pay out of pocket for membership fees; however, it may be possible to use funds from a flexible spending account or health savings account to cover these costs.

The Final Consensus

If you’re looking for high-quality doctors, personalized care, and on-demand medical advice, concierge medicine is right for you. As Charles Dinerstein, vascular surgeon and senior medical fellow at the consumer advocacy organization the American Council on Science and Health puts it, “Concierge medicine, like many other things we purchase, is an experience as much as it’s care — you have a much more personalized, intimate encounter with your concierge doctor.”

Don’t Forget On-Demand Wellness

Concierge medicine is not limited to healthcare practices. There are a number of companies making wellness more accessible by applying the concierge model to individual services. For example, if you’re looking for a quick physical and mental boost, the ivee app delivers on-demand recovery and wellness IV therapy. Enter your location, choose your treatment, and a nurse will be to your door in just 15-30 minutes.

This is just one instance of on-demand service – with concierge medicine, the offerings are essentially endless. Feeling your best has truly never been easier!

Easing Stress, Anxiety and Sadness While on Lockdown

The COVID-19 outbreak has taken a huge toll on all of us. Take a look at this post in which we reflected on the death toll and economic impact as well as providing our post-partisan take on the government’s handling of the pandemic. These are uncertain times for all of us. And when uncertainty arises, anxiety is often quick to follow. The pandemic and subsequent lockdown have, quite understandably, precipitated spikes in anxiety and depression throughout the world. Still, as you grapple with the “new normal” it’s important to remember that you are not powerless. You can take control of your mental health and improve your psychological wellbeing by being proactive.

Here’s how…

Take control of your finances

Your household budget is a balance sheet of income and expenditure. You’ve likely taken a drop in income. But that doesn’t mean that you’re powerless to counteract it by addressing your expenditure. The best place to start is the kitchen. Get used to eating more wholefoods (especially fruits and veggies). Buy fresh when you can. Buy tinned, dried or frozen when you can’t. As you get used to batch cooking and meal planning you’ll be amazed by how much less you spend on food.

Don’t forget about your bills, either. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that you need to pay over the odds for your utilities, home or auto insurance. Start running some price comparisons now or investigate local providers and you might just be amazed by what you can save. What’s more, if you’re no longer using your car, you don’t necessarily have to go to the expense of insuring it.

Make time for yourself

You’re likely sharing your home with the whole family. As a result, it’s likely feeling a whole lot smaller. It can feel as though everyone is getting under your feet, and inevitably cabin fever may set in. This is why it’s so vital that you (and everyone else in the household) make time for yourself. Remember that you still can, and should go outside to get some fresh air. Take a walk, sit in the park and read a book for an hour. Play some video games or watch a movie by yourself if it helps you unwind but be wary of spending all day in front of a screen.

Make time for yourself and you’ll return to your family happier and better adjusted with more perspective on your problems.

Eat more plants, and less of everything else

Fruits, veggies, grains and pulses are packed with nutrients and phytochemicals to keep your body in tip top shape and your immune system ready for battle. However, studies suggest that a vegetarian diet also helps to boost your mood and reduce stress. Not to mention saving you money. So load up on plant based foods and steer clear of anything processed where possible.

Think about supplements

Supplements, so long as they’re natural and not processed, may be something to look into. Herbal supplements and oils, such as CBD oil, may be possibilities, too. Sites like Blessed CBD can provide more information about cbd oil and natural supplements, as well as a good range of products to choose from.

Exercise in whatever way works best for you

Finally, exercise can be a tremendous boon when trying to stay positive and alleviate stress. Exercise floods the brain with endorphins- the body’s feel good chemicals. Furthermore, the idea of wowing people with the new, leaner and healthier you once the lockdown is lifted can be a powerful motivator.

How to Protect Your Rights at Work

Your rights at work are precious and they’re worth protecting. If you’re finding yourself in a difficult situation at work and you’re not sure what to do about it, going back to your basic rights under the law should be the first port of call. Those rights are there for a reason and it’s only right that you defend them and stand up for them. If you’re not sure how to do that, here’s some useful advice.

Start by Learning What Your Rights Are

Before you can do anything else, you need to understand what your rights at work actually are. Of course, this is something that will vary from location to location depending on what the local employment laws are. You should find out what the laws are in your area so that you can understand where you stand what your rights are under the law.

Get to Know Your HR Reps

Getting on good terms with your employer’s HR reps is always a good idea. These are the people you’ll need to be in contact with and who you’ll need to turn to if there’s ever a problem at work. When it comes to defending your rights, you’ll probably achieve better outcomes if you’re on good terms with these people and not too combative with them because that’s not where you want to start.

Speak to a Lawyer When You Feel it Necessary

If you’ve been hurt at work and you feel you weren’t kept safe or properly protected by the company you work for and this is partially to blame for the accident, it’s a good idea to seek legal guidance. There are up to 3.8 million concussions in the workplace each year and you should take action to ensure you get compensation if you become part of that statistic.

Join a Trade Union

It makes sense to find out which union represents people in your field and industry. By joining a trade union, you’ll have an external point of contact to help you in the workplace if a conflict or problem arises. They’ll be on your side and be able to defend you against employers who you feel are ignoring your rights and taking advantage of you.

Be Assertive Without Being Angry

Sometimes, you need to be assertive at work. As we mentioned above, this is not normally the best place to start when dealing with a problem. But if being polite and cordial gets you ignored, you need to be clear and assertive about what should happen. When you know what your rights are, there’s nothing wrong with asserting them clearly.

Protecting your rights at work is vital because if you don’t stand up for your own rights, now is going to do it for you. Don’t put yourself in a situation where you’re going to have your rights ignored or bypassed. It will only happen if you allow it to, so if you think you’re being taken advantage of, take a stand.
