Five Ways To Keep Your Home Cool During Hot Weather

The hot weather is often a challenge and yet it’s still a shock every time those peak months or weeks come around. It can feel as though you’re climbing the walls and wishing for that colder weather to return.

Keeping yourself cool during the hot weather is important, especially when it comes to you and your little ones. With that being said, here are five ways that are going to help keep your home cool during the hot weather and more importantly – keep you sane!

Keep blinds and curtains closed during the day

First and foremost, consider keeping your blinds and curtains closed. Why? Well, when it comes to the heat, letting all of the sunlight hit your windows and heat up your rooms is not going to make for a pleasant atmosphere during the day.

By keeping your blinds and curtains closed, you block out a lot of the heat that would otherwise be infiltrating your home. It’s even better if these curtains or blinds are thermal as they’ll help to detract any of that heat away from your interiors.

Consider air conditioning or evaporative coolers

When trying to cool down your spaces, air conditioning often is the go-to option. However, with ACs, they can be fairly expensive to operate and run all day, every day. With that being said, you might want to look for some more affordable, budget-friendly options.

A great option would be portable evaporative coolers. They do the exact same job of cooling down a space and they don’t cost a lot to run in the long-term.

Close doors and seal any gaps

To help cool the space, consider closing doors to rooms that you’re not using and seal any gaps where possible. This will help contain any heat that you don’t want seeping into other rooms. For example, certain spaces in the home might be subjected to more heat during the day and so it’s good to block that heat off until it’s cooled down.

That way, you’ll avoid more heat moving through the home and making the home feel warm in general.

Open windows during the evening

Cooling down the space in the evening is the best way of helping get a good night’s rest. Consider opening the windows during the evening when you can. The cool air will hopefully bring down the temperature of the spaces, particularly that of the bedroom.

Avoid opening the windows during the day as that’s just going to let in a lot of hot air to an already hot space.

Have plenty of ice in the freezer

When the home is hot, the best way to help combat this is by having plenty of ice in the freezer. Having plenty of ice in the freezer means you can do more to regulate and cool down your own body temperature. From putting them in your drinks to having them in front of a room fan, they’re a cheap and effective way to keep you cool.

Remember that the heat is only going to be temporary and it’ll be cooler before you know it – so make the most of the summer sun.

How to Give Your Child a Happy Childhood

Is there a more special time in life than childhood? Life can — and should — be enjoyable at all stages, but there’s something extra charming about those formative years when the whole world is new and exciting. As a parent, you’ll hope that your child has a happy experience during those early years, and there are definitely things you can do to help increase the chances! In this post, we’ll take a closer look at some tried and tested methods for giving your child the best childhood possible.

Space to Be Themselves

Your child will have their own unique personality, so let them show it off to the world! While there’ll be things that you very much need to teach them, it’s also important to provide the space they need to discover who they are. They’ll have their own quirks and interests. Maybe your child is a natural comedian, or they’re an avid reader. It’s best to encourage these traits at an early age since it can have such a huge impact on what they do later on in life. Plus, it just makes their childhood experience more wholesome and fulfilling.

Fun Adventures

There’ll be many days when you just go through the motions and need to take care of business. That’ll involve meals, school runs, and evening relaxation. Those days will eventually bleed into one memory for your child, so it’s important to, every now and again, do something different and have a day that your child will remember for the rest of their life. There’s a lot of value in taking the time to plan a trip into nature, for example. Could you organize a fun camping trip for you and your kids this summer? It’ll give them a chance to discover a new side of themselves.

Celebrating Moments

Most families have to operate as a group dynamic for the majority of the time. But it’s also important to celebrate each member of the family individually from time to time, too. For instance, if they do something well, or if it’s their birthday. Going all out to make your children feel special at these moments can do wonders for their self-esteem, and happily, all it requires is a little bit of effort. If you research some great birthday venues in your local area, invite a bunch of people, and buy some special gifts, then your child will be in doubt that people care about them. It’ll mean the world to them.

All the Love

Finally, remember to provide the one thing for which there is no substitute: all the love in the world. This sounds obvious, but it’s amazing how many children question whether their parents really love them, and that’s all because we lack the tools to show love in a uniform way. If you’re doing everything you can to give them a good life, then it’ll be obvious that you love them, but they might not be too sure. The best solution? Simply tell them directly that you love them!

Save Time on Tidying! Making Your Home Run More Smoothly

Cleaning your home is a necessary evil, it’s not something that most of us particularly enjoy but it has to be done. Doing so allows us to live in a calm, sanitary and relaxed space where we can rest and retreat from the world which is so important for our mental and physical health. However, if you feel like you’re spending more time than you’d like on cleaning and sorting out your home then it can definitely take some of the joy out of it! Here are some things you can think about if you’re wanting to simplify the process and make life a little easier for yourself.

Design an Easy to Clean Home

Some homes are easier to keep clean, so going back to basics and thinking about design is a good place to start. Replace carpets with hard flooring which is much easier to keep clean, if you have pets and/ or kids and are constantly faced with cleaning smells and spills then this is a no- brainer. Add washable rugs to the space to keep things feeling cosy but without the hassle of scrubbing who knows what out of carpets! Wipeable paint and wipeable furniture are other smart design choices. Opting for leather instead of fabric sofas for example will make cleaning any mess and spills up a breeze compared with scrubbing them out of fabric.

Embrace Minimalism

Clutter and mess can quickly escalate stress levels. Going with a minimalist approach can help you to create a more serene environment and simplify your daily routine overall. The less stuff you have, the easier it is to keep in order- its as simple as that. It’s not to say you should throw away all of your possessions, but definitely have a think about what’s worth keeping. If you’re having to rummage through items of unnecessary things every time you’re looking for something you need, ask yourself if that could change. Declutter wardrobes, drawers and cupboards and keep what you need and use. From there, invest in some good organisational systems like storage bins and containers so the things you do decide to keep all have a place. It makes tidying up much easier and when you come to find things you know exactly where they are.

Utilise Smart Home Technology:

In today’s digital age, smart home technology can be a game changer when it comes to simplifying your daily tasks. Take advantage of home automation to streamline lots of different processes within your home which will make your entire living environment more efficient. From lighting to heating to home security, there’s plenty that can be done through your home hub (such as your Alexa or Google Home) or straight from your phone. Do some research, sites like Smart Home Technologies have everything in one place so it’s easy to set up a smart home system that’s right for your needs.
