In order to be safe, and to take good care of your car, you need to make sure that you are aware of some of the most common car problems that can arise over time. Just knowing about them, and of course having some idea of what you would do about them, is really useful, and can mean that you are going to feel and genuinely be a lot safer when driving. So in this post, we are going to take you through some of the more common car problems that you might come across, now or further down the line.

Windscreen Cracks

From time to time, your windscreen might get cracked. This doesn’t by any means happen to every vehicle, but it is very common and it’s the kind of thing that you need to be aware of and look out for. The main thing to bear in mind here is that you should not ignore a windscreen crack, if it does appear. You need to get it fixed up as soon as you can by taking it to some auto glass specialists. They might be able to repair it, or at the very least, replace the windscreen, thus ensuring your ongoing safety and comfort.

Check Engine Light

If you have ever had your check engine light come on while driving, you’ll know that it’s the kind of experience that can really get the heart pumping. It is certainly something you are going to need to be aware of, at least, and which you should ideally know as much about as possible. That way, you will be able to know what to do, should it happen to your vehicle. In particular, make sure that you know the difference between the different lights: a solid red one means stop as soon as possible and get it checked, whereas a flashing or amber one might just be a spark plug or something similar out of action. Either way, don’t ignore it.

Squishy Brakes

If you have noticed that your brakes have started to get a little squishy, then that is something that you certainly shouldn’t ignore. This is usually an indicator that your brakes are going to need replacing, or at the very least repairing, and doing so will be essential if you want to be safe while driving your car, and in order to do so legally as well. Don’t leave it – get them replaced as soon as you can, so that you can have better peace of mind.

Overheating Engine

Having an overheating engine can be a real nuisance, and it can also be quite dangerous and frightening too. If you go through this, it’s important to know what to do in the immediate sense as well as the long term. First, put the heating on – this actually works to cool the engine, believe it or not. Then when you can pull over safely, check the coolant and add some more if necessary. If the problem persists, get it checked out – you might have a coolant leak.
