Is Your Business The Kind People Want To Work For?

Credit

In business, you spend so much of your time trying to make sure that customers and other people in the public will approve of it, that it is all too easy to forget about the people inside it too. Actually, these people are possibly even more critical in many ways, and you need to make sure that you are keeping them as happy as possible at all times. One of the most important reasons that you need to do this is because you need to know that you are always going to be able to hire people to work for you. So, as it currently stands, is your business one that people will generally want to work for? And if not, do you know what you might need to do to try and make it so? Let’s look at some of the steps you could take to do just that.

Make It Safe & Secure

Your employees need to know that they are safe and secure when they work for you, and this is probably what takes precedent above all else in fact. Of course, there are many things you will be able to do to make sure that you are keeping your business safe and secure, and so long as you are doing those, you will find your employees are happy with that. This is as simple as getting a security team in house, making sure you carry out cctv installation whenever necessary, and generally taking whatever steps you can to keep out intruders. But it’s also about preventing the likelihood of fire and other disasters, which in turn means training your staff themselves to be able to deal with that. It’s pretty involved, but it’s necessary to ensure that your staff are happy working for you.

Pay Them Well & Fairly

Pay is obviously a hugely important thing for all workers, and you have a duty to make sure that you are paying your people as well as you can afford to. You need to of course pay them at least a minimum wage, but you should aim to pay them more than that if you can and to give them a pay raise at least once a year. You will also need to make sure that you are paying them fairly, which means equally for the same job, same experience level and no matter who they are. As well as being a moral and legal responsibility, it is also essential in keeping them happy. By paying well, you will encourage others to want to work for you in the future, so it is in your own best interests too.

Be A Responsible Business

Generally, people also want to know that the business they are working for is a socially responsible one. That means that you have schemes in place to be as environmentally friendly as possible, that you are socially aware, and that you are acting in a manner which is fair and good for society. If people feel that you are doing that, they will be considerably happier to work for you, and you will find that you have potential employees coming to your door in droves.

A Natural Caregiver: Finding A Fulfilling Future

It can take a lot to feel fulfilled in life, and you might find it a challenge to know what steps to take in order to get to your happy place. However, it’s worth starting with how you spend your time the most, so that you can put your focus towards bettering that time, and improving your life. Most people spend the majority of their week in a working environment. And, if their job or career doesn’t fulfill them, it can lead to long term unhappiness, and even a range of health issues. Therefore, it’s crucial to your mental and physical health, to ensure that you’re as happy as possible in your workplace (most of the time; there will always be challenging days).

If you’re a natural caregiver, or nurturer, there are an array of options for you regarding your career and future choices. If you love providing care to others, just think how satisfying a job would be, if you were paid to do so during your working week. Surely it’s worth thinking about the different areas that you could utilize your natural skills and develop a career that you love? The following are some areas to consider if you want to head into a long term career, where providing care to the public, is top of the priority list.

Infant Care

I you love nothing more than being surrounded by the youngest people on the planet, and they bring you joy; it’s worth looking into a career where babies and toddlers are those you look after the most. Perhaps you’re already a nurse, but want to specialize in caring for infants; research into neonatal dnp programs and ways to gain the qualifications needed, to make your dream a reality. If a hospital environment isn’t for you; you could consider becoming a nanny so that looking after a little one’s welfare is what you get paid for. There’s always work with social services too; finding foster and adoptive parents for babies and toddlers in need will be a rewarding way to earn your income.

Kids And Teens

Obviously, the nurturing process has only just begun with infants; kids and teenagers need just as much, if not, more, care as they grow-up. Look into how to get into teaching young minds so that you can guide them through their most influential years. There are so many teaching and teaching assistant opportunities out there. It’s about finding your subject, skills, and niche, and figuring out the sort of environment in which you’d be most happy. You can even go overseas to teach, so that could be another element of life you’re fulfilling.

Those Who Are Vulnerable

There are all sorts of vulnerable people; from children through to adults. And, they all need very specific and different kinds of care. Whether you look into counselling, medicine, or various therapies; your skills can provide those in need with healing, recovery, and recuperation. Again, social work, and care in the community, is a great way to meet and help a variety of people. And don’t forget about charities; there are always openings to help with a great cause.

Making Your Employees Happy and Productive

If you want your business to be as successful as you know it has the potential to be, one of the things that you simply must do is look after your staff. By taking good care of your employees and keeping them happy, you will encourage them to be more productive, loyal and creative. This will take your business to new places and ensure that you have far fewer problems than your competitors as a result.

Sound good? Here are some of the best things you can start doing to make your employees happier and more productive right now…

Just Be a Great Employer

If you want to really simplify things, in order to make your employees happy and productive, what you basically need to do is be a great employer. If  you can do this, they will respect you and they will be confident that you respect them and that will go a long way. So be kind to your employees, be fair to them, give them enough responsibility to keep them happy and ensure you have clear boundaries in place. If you do those things and you remain approachable by all employees at all times, you will be well on your way to a happy workforce.

Value Your Employees

Your staff need to be valued if they are to feel happy in their work. So, be free with your praise ensuring that no good job goes unnoticed. If your budget can stretch to it, even if you need to make a few cuts elsewhere, give actual rewards, whether in the form of bonuses, dinners or even trophies, to those employees who have earned them, and talk to your employees face to face when things do go wrong rather than shouting and penalizing them. The more civil you can be, the more valuable they’ll feel and the more happy and productive they’ll be. Not only that, but the whole work atmosphere will be far better too.

Give Them Responsibilities

If you want your employees to feel really fulfilled and be really productive, it almost certainly pays to give them more responsibility. It can be tempting to micro-manage everything in your business, but if you do this, you don’t let your staff reach their full potential. Which can make them feel bored and unhappy. It can also mean that you miss out on their expertise and talents, which may actually be better than yours in many ways! Let them get on with things, trusting them to do a good job and you know what – they probably will!

Create Places They Can Relax

No one can be truly happy in their job if they are constantly overworked, stressed and tired. That’s why you need to provide a comfortable staff room where they can truly switch off and relax when they need a moment. If you can, creating an outdoor space, perhaps with a covered metal walkway, a few tables and chairs and lots of plants, is also a good idea.. It has been shown that spending time outdoors can reduce stress and increase productivity, so even if this costs your company a little cash, it will be more than worth it in the end.

It has been proven happy employees are more productive and will stick around longer, so do what you can to ensure your staff love coming to work each day and you will all win!

Four Personality Traits You Need To Manage Working From Home

There are so many perks to working from home. Seriously, if you haven’t worked remotely before, then you need to start thinking about how it could change your life. Some of the perks include;

  • Working a more flexible schedule.
  • Taking more time for your family.
  • No more long commutes.
  • Hello, pajamas!
  • Maintaining a better work/life balance.
  • Being free to work from wherever you like.

You may be considering working from home, but there is so much more to think about than just the perks of the situation you could be in. You need to consider whether working for home will be good for you or not, because your productivity level is going to mean a lot for a job that matches your personality type. Some people stay at home to work without being given the choice: those who aren’t able to work freely sometimes are healing from car accident injuries, or there are even those who are parents and need flexibility. Below, we’re going to look at four personality types that will manage making money from home.

Independent. Some people benefit from the structure of the 9-5, the office walls and the camaraderie of the team spirit in the office. They do their best work when they visually and physically are in the place to do it. There’s nothing wrong with that. However, there are those that are more independent, who don’t need the office fun or the 9-5 trappings to be good at their work. In fact, they thrive when they’re independent and happy. If you want to work alone, home working is the way forward.

Self-Discipline. Can you put together a to-do list without being told to? Can you keep your workspace clutter free? Can you thoroughly plan a whole itinerary for a trip before you go? You could benefit from being able to work from home! You need to be organized to be disciplined enough to stay and work at home and if you can be organized, then you can do it well and you can have the motivation to work your deadlines.

Focus. How much of your day can you avoid social media? If a cat video pops up on your screen, can you avoid it or do you click on it? If you can avoid procrastination and focus on your work, you’re going to benefit from working remotely. Staying focused is a huge working from home challenge, and if you can do it, you’re going to be able to sharpen your focus and avoid distractions.

Communicator. You don’t have to be a quiet introvert to benefit from home working. You could be the loudest, proudest person in the world, and as long as you are able to communicate via any means to your employer and your colleagues, you’re going to manage just fine.

Working remotely isn’t the easiest thing to do for every personality, but it’s the best thing for a lot of people. It’s become more popular in recent years, and it’s important that you know if it’s right for you before you go ahead and commit.

5 Reasons You Could Lose Your Job

No one ever wants to think about losing their job. It’s just one of those things that’s hard to discuss because there is still shame that surrounds not being able to keep a job. Even if you work really hard, there are still circumstances that could cost you your career, and even if you show up every day on time and enthusiastic, there could still be things that you’re doing that could see you enjoying a pink slip at the end of a day.

It just hurts. If you’re in a position where you are worried about your job, it’s worth having a chat to your HR department about it before it becomes a problem. There are some circumstances where you can’t help but lose your job on your own terms, especially if you end up injured in your way to work, don’t show up and spend time trying to work out what to do when you’re in a car accident and you need time off. Your employer has to give you some wiggle room, but it doesn’t mean that they have to keep you on if you need extended leave. However, other than circumstances where you have no choice but to leave, there are times you could be working hard and still lose your job. Here they are:

  • You were working on the wrong things.

Believe it or not, you could be spending your week and your overtime plugging away and still find that you are let go – because you worked hard on all the wrong things. If you’re not fulfilling your job duties, then you’re not going to be kept on.

  • You’re bored – and it shows.

There’s every chance that working on your job role isn’t fulfilling for you, and if you find that you’re not staying focused on your role because it’s just not challenging for you, then there’s a chance that you are going to show that to others.

  • You’ve got no allies.

In a business, you need friends. Getting alone with your colleagues is a must and if you’re not willing to do that, you’re going to struggle with being kept on. Companies have a culture, and if you’re not part of that culture you’re not going to survive in the company.

  • You’re overworked and making mistakes

There is such a thing as overworking, you know. All that overtime and those long hours? Not always a good thing. Take the time to slow down a little and make sure that you’re making time for yourself while you work, because overwork leads to sloppiness, which leads to making mistakes that you don’t intend to make.

  • You’re never there.

Earlier, we mentioned an injury that could put you out of action. Not being able to attend the office regularly can make your employer let you go because they need someone else to fill the gap you’re leaving. Some employers won’t allow for remote work, and while you can’t be fired for recovering, you can if they need the spot.

There are about a hundred more reasons for being fired, but it’s worth avoiding all of them!

Wisdom is Knowing the Right Path to Take in Life. Integrity is Taking it

Image from here

The start of the new year is a chance to reflect, to look at the goals we set last year, and decide what we’d like to achieve in the coming months. It’s a fresh start, an opportunity to check in and make sure we’re on a path that’s taking us towards where we want to be. Instead of setting superficial resolutions this year that will be forgotten about by February, why not delve a little deeper? Changes like these could massively improve your life for the better.

Move somewhere new

The place where we live affects our lives in a big way. From the property itself, the space we have and the way it’s decorated- to the general area and overall location. If your home is cramped and small you might find yourself getting stressed and running out of space. If it’s in a busy city, you might be tired of the noise and pollution. If the area has gone downhill since you moved in, you might be worried about crime and other social issues. Don’t feel like you’re stuck in the place you have, it’s so worth doing some research and finding what else is out there. Property sites like William Pitt have home valuation tools so you can see what yours is worth at the click of a button, and from there can see what else you can afford. Moving can mean a fresh start, and a chance to start living life the way that you want.

Consider a change of career

Most of us spend around forty hours a week at work, and so if you’re unhappy in your job, you’re more than likely going to be unhappy in the rest of your life too. While a change of career is a huge deal, it could well end up being one of the best things you’ve ever done. You could go back to university and study for the qualification you need, or do it part-time from home. Otherwise, you could look into alternate ways of changing career, such as starting at the bottom and working your way up. While you’ll experience a drop in money to begin with, it could lead to far better prospects later down the line, and a job you’re much happier in.

Make an effort to meet new people

It’s so easy to fall into a rut in adulthood. We spend most of our days working, and spend time with the same few people. We rarely push outside our comfort zone and try new things where we’re exposed to new individuals. It’s easy to think that we don’t need more friends, but meeting others adds depth and interest to life like nothing else. You might not like everyone you meet, but everyone brings with them lessons. They can teach you a new perspective, or even reflect something of yourself back at you which motivates you to change. They can introduce you to new things that you simply would never have done on your own. If you’re single, why not sign up to a dating app and go on some dates? Join a meetup website and meet with others with the same interests as you. Reconnect with old friends on Facebook, and say yes to more social invitations. You wont regret it!

5 Reasons to Become a Freelancer

5 Reasons to Become a Freelancer

There’s no arguing that having a freelance job is a lot more flexible than an office desk job. The freedom you acquire when becoming freelance is something a lot of people will admire. So, if you’re thinking about going freelance but something is holding you back, here are five benefits that may just tip the scale.

Pixabay

Your Workload

When you work for someone else, your workload is dictated to you and isn’t always a practical amount. Whether it’s because you have too much on your plate or you haven’t got a big enough challenge, being a freelancer can fix that problem. When you’re your own boss, you can accept or deny the projects that come your way. Of course, you’ll always have to have a good reason for denying a client, but it means you don’t have to take on anything below your skills or low paying.

Your Health

There are certain times of year where colds and other illnesses will fly around the office. If your colleagues don’t have the good sense to stay home while they’re ill, it usually means others get infected too. As a freelancer, you don’t have to come into contact with clients or colleagues who are ill because most of your work will be done at home. Secondly, if you fall ill yourself, you can take time off knowing you can catch up with work at a later time.

Pixabay

You’re Not Alone

Many people don’t take the leap into freelancing because they believe they’ll have to do everything alone. That is far from true. From building your website and help from a managed service provider to calendar and finance tools, there’s something out there for every problem you could come across. Just because your sat at home alone, it doesn’t mean you won’t have access to the exact same things you would if you were sat in an office.

You Answer to You

Being a freelancer won’t necessarily mean you have no-one to answer to. Clients will chase you if you’re late delivering work and you will lose clients (and money) if you’re not strict on yourself. But, when push comes to shove, you haven’t got the stress of a boss breathing down your neck or treating your poorly if you make a mistake. In fact, studies have shown that freelancers often deliver a higher quality of work because they don’t have the same pressure as office workers.

Forget About the Commute

No more long drives to work in the morning, no more public transport or getting soaked in the rain during your lunch break. Avoiding the commute means you’re helping the environment by not adding to the pollution and you have some extra time in the morning. Whether you use that time to get in some exercise, a healthy breakfast or a nice lay in bed, is up to you.

Starting your own freelance business is exciting and rewarding, even if it is hard work.

Could Your Side Hustle Be Serious?

https://unsplash.com/photos/FWVMhUa_wbY

When you hear the word side-hustle, it doesn’t always sound that serious. It can sound like something you do when you want to try and kill your boredom, or as a budding entrepreneur. But it really doesn’t have to be boxed into either category. It can simply be defined as a passion that you’re pursuing. Or something that you’re working on to make extra money. Or, even, a career path that you’re building in your own time, with a hope that you’re going to be able to take things full-time in the future. And if you know that you have a huge passion for something that you’re doing in life, this could be exactly what you need right now. And yes, it could totally be serious. Here’s how.

Committing The Time

First of all, you need to make sure that you’re actually committing the time. Because if you’re not able to allocate any time in your day for your side hustle, it’s never going to get serious. And this is mainly because it may not even grow at all. So first of all, if you are committing the time to make this grow, then yes, things are definitely getting serious.

Getting A Return

And if you know that you’re starting to make money from this, it’s always a good sign. Sure, that return does then often mean that you’re going to put it back into the business. Because you may need to get more accurate manufacturing cost estimating and quoting or manufacture yourself, more staff, or just buy more stock. But the sign of making that money in the first place shows that this is getting serious.

https://unsplash.com/photos/L8QuQqL1ZJ8

Building A Customer Base

When your customer base is starting to grow, and your customers love what you do, then you can also say that this is really starting to get serious. So you may be at the stage where you want to start allocating more time, effort, and attention to actually making something of this.

Getting Notoriety

From here, you may find that you’re starting to get traction with what you’re doing. Customers are loving what you’re doing, you’re making it into the media, and you’re really starting to take off. The more that your name and the businesses name is mentioned, the better. Because when you start to get noticed, it often means that your sales and media are going to skyrocket. So yes, this can be incredibly serious.

Being Able To Do It Full Time

And then, you may find that you’re at the stage where you realize that, yes, you can absolutely look to take this full-time. But it can be a tough climb until that point. Because you’re going to be working super hard in any free time that you have, and you’re going to be working hard at work. And something has to give. But when you’re making money and business is going well, you’ll be at the tipping point where you can walk away from your day job and do this full-time.

Investing In Our Passions, And Getting Them To Make An Investment For Us

Pixabay

We live in an age where we can feel our creativity get stifled. We may be in a job that demands we devote all of our time, efforts and energy to the cause. And every hour that ticks by, you’re excited about the end of the day, where you can rip that lanyard off and do what you want to do. But should we make more of a concerted effort to follow our true passions if we feel like this?

Does A Side Hustle Cure All?

You might have heard this term floating around numerous blogs, and for many people, setting up a small business on the side of what they do Monday to Friday from 9 to 5 can provide that extra income, but also that additional meaning. A side hustle is something that works on numerous levels, it gives you the opportunity to focus your creativity into something that you care about, but it also provides that positive reinforcement that you’re doing something worthwhile. This is something that so many of us need, especially when we’re feeling weighed down by The Grind. And while, for many people, it’s simply the idea of working from home put into practice, if you find something that gives you meaning, it can impact every other area of your life. You will feel that your job isn’t so bad, because there is an escape, an outlet.

Nurturing These Passions Into Something Tangible

Creating a side hustle doesn’t have to be about earning money, but it’s an extension of following your passions, and if you chase the passions, instead of the money, you will feel rich despite what your bank balance says! You may find that it’s an incredibly successful endeavor, and so you will see you that the amount of work you put into this increase, while the full-time job you’re doing during the week slowly begins to decrease. And before you know it, you’ve set up your own business! It’s something that you created with your own two hands.

Making Your Passion Pay

This is the hardest piece of the puzzle. Once you’ve got to the point where you are relying on this thing that started as a way for you to communicate your passions, it’s now essential that you work at making this viable. Technology is the key component, especially when you have got to the point that you need to branch out and actually hire people. Hunting for the best VPS (virtual private server), anti-virus software, and various items of technology have become part of the essential processes to ensure that your passion is financially viable. And from there, you see this exercise in creativity expand into such a behemoth that you can’t quite believe how much things have changed.

We have to invest in our true passions, and when we are struggling with the 9 to 5 daily grind, the creativity we put into something like a side hustle or a part-time project can ignite a spark in us we didn’t know was there. Our true passions in life can get quashed, and the necessity to earn money becomes the priority, but if we don’t invest in our true passions, how will we know if it makes an investment for us?

The Fiscal Fight Against Disability Debt

Whether you were born with a disability or have recently been disabled following a recent illness or injury, good money management is of paramount importance. The cost of disabled living can be demanding even for those lucky enough to still be able to carry on with their jobs and careers after their disabilities manifest. If left unchecked, this can lead to a disability debt spiral which can be ruinous to one’s physical and psychological wellbeing. Financial wellness is one of many areas in which the disabled find that they have to work a little harder than their able bodies counterparts, especially when disability insurance claims are rejected or insurers place caps on how much you can earn while claiming. Whether you work on a freelance basis or for an employer, here are some ways in which you can improve your financial health and ease the psychological, emotional and logistical stranglehold that disability debt can have on your life and work…

Talk to a lawyer if your disability insurance claim is rejected

It can be an extremely dispiriting experience when one’s disability insurance claim is denied. It can even lead the claimant to question whether they are suffering from a bona fide disability. In ,many cases, however, just because a claim has been rejected doesn’t mean that a claimant does not have legitimate grounds for a claim. In most cases it helps to have an attorney check over your claim and / or launch an appeal on your behalf. Check here to see how a dedicated long term disability lawyer can help you. When you know that you can claim that to which you are entitled this can ease the financial pressure on you and contribute enormously to your psychological well-being.

Find ways to save every day

While those in the disabled community face specific expenses and financial difficulties which their able-bodied counterparts do not, sometimes using the good old-fashioned saving techniques available to all of us can make a big difference. Clip coupons, look for voucher codes, take advantage of introductory offers, do free trials and find ways to save on the little things every day. All of these little savings add up to make a big difference by the end of the year!

Remember your tax deductions

Remember that when it comes to your taxes, disabled people may qualify for tax deductions, credits and income exclusions which may ease the burden placed upon you when saving for your taxes. It’s worth hiring an accountant to ensure that you claim for every expense incurred in your professional activities. Indeed, there may be many things which they can help you with that you were not aware that you could claim for. At the very least it behoves you to take a look at the IRS website and see what you may be entitled to.

Managing your debts

Finally, managing your debts is an important aspect of financial wellbeing. The simple truth is that for all but the most privileged of us, living debt-free in the 21st century is an unattainable pipe-dream. Debts can quickly spiral out of control when they all have different interest rates, all come out of your bank on different days of the month and can wreak havoc on your credit rating.

Consolidating your debts makes them much easier to manage as it replaces them with a single monthly payment with a set interest rates. Because a consolidation loan buys out all of your previous debts, it can also seriously boost your credit score!
