There is nothing easy about living with anxiety. It grips your stomach and twists in its grip, and there is nothing fun about that feeling. Learning to control that anxiety is hard and it’s a long-term process that takes some time to overcome. You cannot overcome anxiety overnight, however, so you need to come up with techniques that enable you to manage it well.

- Learn good breathing techniques. You need to be able to slow your breathing down so that you can clear your mind. Opening your lungs can help you to feel less tight around the chest, and you can build good breathing habits that allow you to feel peaceful in stressful situations. Controlling your breathing isn’t just about slowing down, but about focusing on something that isn’t your panic.
- Find a friend. Another good way to overcome anxiety is to speak to a friend and find someone with good words for you. Knowing you have a supportive shoulder to worry on can make a big difference to how you feel about yourself. - Figure out things that relax you. It’s hard to find things that relax you directly, but you need to consider those things so that you can rely on them when the panic creeps in. There are always going to be things in your life that make you feel good. You just have to find out what those are and utilize them when you are starting to descend into anxiety.
Whatever it is that makes you feel good and less worried, you should do that. Draw a bath, take a walk, read a book – no matter what that thing is, you need to do what you can to feel well again. Anxiety will not always go away overnight and you may need additional support. Once you find that support – whether that be medication or therapy – you should work with it so that you feel better for it afterward. Panic attacks and worrying can make you feel like your entire life is falling apart – but it doesn’t have to be.
